It's a provocative query and the foundation of Garcia's long-shot challenge to McCarthy, a four-term incumbent who rose to power after another GOP leader thought unsinkable, Virginia's Eric Cantor, fell to an unknown candidate in a primary.

Garcia's is a longshot challenge. He's an unknown California farm worker who got on the ballot as a write-in candidate. But he now has backing from labor unions, and ambitions to hold the new House majority leader to account in his own, agriculture-rich back yard for the failure of the Republican House to move immigration legislation.

"My idea is to send a message that the whole country will hear," Garcia said in Spanish in a phone interview from Wasco, Calif., after a night shift hauling tomatoes. "The farmworkers are the ones who put the food on the tables of the whole country. And we are not being represented."

Garcia's candidacy comes with immigration legislation dead in Congress and President Barack Obama preparing to act on his own to address the dysfunctional system, including potentially extending work permits and relief from deportation to millions.

That could have a profound impact on McCarthy's district at the southern tip of California's Central Valley, where many thousands of workers, many of them here illegally, labor in the fields harvesting grapes, almonds, lettuce and other crops. ...

Black Activists Explode over ‘Racist’ Help for Ferguson Cop

A group founded by former Obama aide Van Jones and former MoveOn.org activist James Rucker is calling on the Internet fundraising platform GoFundMe.com to take down its “Support Officer Darren Wilson” page, accusing the company of “profiting from racially motivated donors.”

The Color of Change, founded by Jones and Rucker in 2005 to “strengthen the political voice of Black America,” says on its website that donors to Officer Wilson are “celebrating Michael Brown’s death” and that GoFundMe should take down the police officer’s fundraising page and return any profits it has generated.

The fundraising campaign for Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson has exploded over the past nine days, raising more than $234,000 in the original GoFundMe page, as first reported Aug. 19 by WND.

Now Wilson’s supporters have started a second page raising more than $176,000 in six days from nearly 4,000 donors, with the goal of reaching $250,000. ...

Over the last few decades, residents of many traditionally liberal states have moved to states that were once more conservative. And this pattern has played an important role in helping the Democratic Party win the last two presidential elections and four of the last six. The growth of the Latino population and the social liberalism of the millennial generation may receive more attention, but the growing diaspora of blue-state America matters as well. 

The blue diaspora has helped offset the fact that many of the nation’s fastest-growing states are traditionally Republican. You can think of it as a kind of race: Population growth in these Republican states is reducing the share of the Electoral College held by traditionally Democratic states. WASHINGTON (AP) — A government immigration board has determined for the first time that domestic violence victims may be able to qualify for asylum in the United States. The ruling comes in the case of a Guatemalan woman who crossed into the U.S. illegally in 2005 after fleeing her husband.

She said she called local police in Guatemala to report the abuse but was repeatedly told that the authorities would not interfere in her marriage. She argued that the abuse and the lack of police response should make her eligible for asylum.

     One aspect that has been removed from the current account, or at least the part that I recently read, is that some local experts who first examined the remains flat-out said that the bones were that of a white man (the first clay modeling looked a lot like actor Patrick Stewart). I believe this was probably what initially put the fear of God into our intolerant Tolerance Police. Since whites cruelly taking America away from today's noble Native Americans, the original inhabitants, is almost up there with the Martin Luther King Narrative. Imagine one skeleton find that could upturn all that wonderful white guilt and the booming Anti-White Grievance Industry. It is reminiscent of Charlton Heston in 'Planet of the Apes' trying to prove he was not an ignorant lowly worthless savage by tossing a paper airplane across the room, to be quickly crumpled up and hidden by the fictional Army Corps of Engineers-like ape.

     I'm all for anything that might help these poor parents get through one more night without screaming or going insane with grief, but maybe Whites are so accustomed to being expected to demonstrate their forgiving sainthood after every tragedy inflicted up them and their families that the rest of the world feels free to plow over us as if we were a pile of leaves on the street.
