ABC News: UK Conservatives Seek TV, Online Ban on Extremists (Whoever imagined the West's open-borders overlords could end freedom of speech so easily? You simply declare something 'hate speech' and--Presto!--it becomes unprotected. And yet no thought whatsoever to barring the entry of or repatriating non-Westerners who are violently opposed to Western freedoms. Side-benefit to May's proposal? Whole new bloated bureaucracy of thought crime administrators, enforcers and courts.)

UK Conservatives Seek TV, Online Ban on Extremists

Theresa Mays

Britain's interior minister on Tuesday proposed new powers to bar people with extremist views from appearing on television or publishing on social media, even if they are not breaking any laws.
Home Secretary Theresa May told a conference of the governing Conservatives that if re-elected next year, the party will introduce civil powers to disrupt people who "spread poisonous hatred" even within the law.
Under the proposal, police could apply for a court order to disrupt "harmful activity" by restricting an individual's movements, preventing them from speaking in public or stopping them publishing articles online.
May said that only a minority of extremists are violent, but "the damage that extremists cause to our society is reason enough to act."
May said that at least 500 Britons have traveled to fight with Islamic militants in Syria and Iraq, and tough measures are needed to stop young people becoming radicalized.
She said the proposed rules could be used against neo-Nazis and other radicals as well as Islamic extremists. ...

London Mayor Boris open-borders Johnson with key brain trust adviser?

BIRMINGHAM England (Reuters) - Eight months before a tight election, the three main contenders to succeed British Prime Minister David Cameron as leader of the Conservatives wooed potential supporters at the party's annual conference with starkly different pitches.

Cameron, 47, has repeatedly said he wants to lead his right-leaning party to victory in May 2015 and to secure a majority, so it can rule alone and not in a coalition as is now the case.
But the Conservatives trail the opposition Labour party in most opinion polls and the surging anti-EU UK Independence Party (UKIP) has poached two of his lawmakers in the last month. Capitalizing on disappointment among some Conservatives with Cameron's centrist policies, UKIP is likely to steal some of his voters too, making it harder for him to get re-elected. ...

Fifteen people shot during party at Miami club

Miami police are investigating a shooting at the club early Sunday that sent more than a dozen people to the hospital.

The party in the new club continued into the wee hours Sunday morning. Strawberry daiquiris flowed. Music from DJ Bay Bay pulsed. Teens were chilling and dancing.
Then came the gunfire.
Witnesses said they heard dozens of rounds, maybe 100, rip through a storefront Miami nightclub called The Spot, wedged between a furniture store and a smoke shop.
When the gunfire stopped, 15 young people were wounded, bloodied and dazed, the youngest of them 11 years old, the oldest 25. ...

AmRen - Jane Weir: Cultural Amnesia on Sesame Street - "Airbrushing the lefty roots of a cultural icon."

Cultural Amnesia on Sesame Street

Sesame Street, 1969
Airbrushing the lefty roots of a cultural icon.
At the Lincoln Center in New York City, the Library of Performing Arts has just mounted a fresh new retrospective exhibit on Sesame Street (“Somebody Come and Play: 45 Years of Sesame Street,” September 18, 2014–January 31, 2015). This once-controversial kiddie show is now older than most of the mothers who are crowding in with their toddlers and baby-strollers. I dropped in the other day and was hit with a blast of cultural amnesia.
The exhibit suggests that Sesame Street was always about Big Bird, fluffy puppets, and silly songs. It was never about urban slums, racial conflict, or any of those other “relevant” social themes of the late 60s that the newspapers always talked about when reviewing the program. Looking at this exhibit, you wouldn’t have a clue that when the first program was broadcast in November 1969, its “target child” was a “4-year-old inner-city black youngster” (according to the New York Times) or that the original opening sequence showed black children in a gritty playground, with Harlem “projects” towering behind.
Sesame Street‘s most striking early innovation was its “inner-city” studio set. Many people assumed it was meant to be Harlem. There were brick tenements with fire escapes, laundry hanging on clotheslines, garbage cans on the sidewalk; as well as an old brownstone inhabited by a black couple who wore afros. A kiddie show set in the “slums” (as theTimes put it) seemed like a hip and edgy idea. ...

AP / Yahoo News: Denver judges consider border immigration cases - "a woman from El Salvador spoke of fleeing the sexual harassment of violent gang members" (No doubt some of these tearful stories are even true, but if this were the criteria for admitting illegals, we could easily have 100 million people on our doorstep real soon. Obviously the underlying problem is that our open-borders overlords need to be overthrown, peacefully if possible, in the USA as well as in all other Western nations. This must happen soon.)

Denver judges consider border immigration cases

DENVER (AP) — While her 5-year-old son slept in her arms, a woman from El Salvador spoke of fleeing the sexual harassment of violent gang members, as immigration judges in Denver began video proceedings Monday in asylum cases of mothers and children being held at a remote New Mexico deportation center.
The 27-year-old woman, who appeared over a video screen and spoke through a translator, promised a judge she would not flee if she were released to family in Los Angeles and vowed to seek U.S. citizenship. ...

Reuters / Yahoo News: EU's Juncker team faces make-or-break hearings - But lawmakers ... face a torrid interrogation." (A live band will be playing "Bolero" in the background, complete with castanets, strobe lights and smoke machine. Seriously, besides its ungainly bizarre byzantine bureaucratic administrative structure, the whole concept is an example of tragic-comic PC utopianism, expecting the people of Denmark and Greece to behave the same, and is essentially virulently anti-European in its Multicultural Marxist-predatory capitalist open-borders policies, just like across the rest of the West, only on steroids.)

EU's Juncker team faces make-or-break hearings

BRUSSELS (Reuters) - The next 10 days could make or break a plan to reshape the European Union under new management in an attempt to revive the economy and regain trust among its half-billion people.
From Monday, members of a European Parliament elected on a wave of anti-Brussels protest will subject nominees for posts on executive European Commission to hearings that could wreck the line-up and a complex new structure proposed by its incoming president, Jean-Claude Juncker.
The former Luxembourg prime minister has presented his team as "political, not technocratic", featuring several former premiers and fewer career bureaucrats.
But lawmakers are uneasy about several of his appointments and the nominees from Britain, France, Spain and Hungary face a torrid interrogation. ...

French right win Senate elections in fresh setback for Hollande

Marine Le Pen, France's National Front political party leader, delivers a speech at the party's weekend summer university youth meeting in Frejus

Paris (AFP) - Just three years after France's upper house Senate made history with its first ever swing to the left, the right clawed back a majority Sunday in a new setback for Socialist President Francois Hollande.

The conservative UMP party of Hollande's predecessor Nicolas Sarkozy and its allies from the centrist UDI won at least 188 seats according to near-final results in the late evening -- 13 seats more than needed for an absolute majority.

George Clooney marries human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin in Venice

George Clooney’s new wife, Amal Alamuddin, may be turning heads and setting tongues wagging in Venice, Hollywood and beyond but she’s no army candy. Those in the international circles in which they travel say Clooney is lucky to have her.
Born to Lebanese Druze parents in 1978 during the height of the Lebanese Civil War, she and her family left for London when she was two years old. Her mother, Baria Alamuddin, is an award-winning journalist and foreign editor of the pan-Arab newspaper, Al-Hayat, while her father is a retired professor from American University of Beirut. ...

Club Fed On The Border–Obama Regime Making Illegal Immigration As Comfortable As Possible
Part of the Obama Regime’s plan to encourage illegal immigration is, besides releasing illegal aliens to not appear for their deportation hearings, is to make life in custody of the few illegal aliens who are not released to disappear, as enjoyable as possible.
To wit, the Regime is spending over twice what it actually costs to detain an illegal alien in a contract jail facility in new friendly facilities for illegal aliens.  This also eats up the detention budget, which lowers the number of aliens detained, which means more aliens released to either fight their deportation forever or who never appear for their deportation hearing. ...

VDARE - Brenda Walker: AP Promotes African Refugee Farmers Being Given Plots Of AMERICAN Land - "America as the world’s flophouse! Let’s celebrate diversity!"

AP Promotes African Refugee Farmers Being Given Plots Of AMERICAN Land

Shortage of farmers in Iowa?

The Associated Press has a happy-talk story about African refugees being given plots of land — from “federal grants,” aka tax money — to grow vegetables, as if nobody else was responding to the increasing demand for fresh veggies.
Is farming a job Americans don’t want to do? Must we import illiterate foreigners to grow vegetables?
On the contrary, where I live in northern California at least, farmers’ markets have stalls of growers who are English-speaking Americans. ...

Refugees Settle in Thanks to Small Farm Plots, Associated Press, September 27, 2014
The rapidly rising demand for locally grown fruits and vegetables has created a robust new market for refugees who fled violence in their home countries and found peace in farming small plots of land in several U.S. cities.
Anytime the Multicultural Marxist media is talking about in-migration or population growth and they use the term "robust," be very afraid.

Reuters / Yahoo News: Europe schism haunts British PM Cameron as pre-election battle drums begin - "Announcing his defection to UKIP, Reckless cited frustration with the Conservatives' European and immigration policies" (The Conservatives, like the GOP here in the U.S., are just not believed any more when it comes to stopping the Third World invasion. But unlike America, UK voters have other parties to turn to. As the U.S. sinks ever farther down into into the Third World quagmire, eventually we will have our own party, but it will be very tough because for decades the Democrats [especially] and the GOP have been bringing in floods of hostile peoples who will outvote European Americans on open borders and ever more government programs.)

Europe schism haunts British PM Cameron as pre-election battle drums begin

BIRMINGHAM England (Reuters) - The British Conservative party's schism over Europe marred Prime Minister David Cameron's last major party conference before a 2015 election, overshadowing his party's attempt to pitch a growing economy and lower welfare spending to voters.
The defection of a second Conservative lawmaker to the anti-EU United Kingdom Independence Party on the eve of the conference ratcheted up the pressure on Cameron to take a tougher line on Europe, immigration and welfare less than eight months before a national election in May. ...

AFP / Yahoo News - Dover, UK: Far-right groups protest immigration at British port (There go those far-far-far-right groups again, demanding border control--imagine that! Next they will be saying we shouldn't run with scissors or place our tongues on frozen pump handles!)

Far-right groups protest immigration at British port

Dover (United Kingdom) (AFP) - British far-right groups demonstrated against immigrants entering the country from France on Saturday, in a protest at the southern English port of Dover.
Draped in British and English flags, demonstrators objected to migrants who cross the English channel from the French port of Calais, where many fleeing instability in the Middle East and Africa have long gathered in makeshift camps.
Some protesters held up signs saying "Support our truckers, secure our borders", while others displayed the banners of the British far-right groups National Front and East Kent English Patriots.
Truck drivers who move freight over the crossing have demanded stricter border controls, saying that they are unfairly penalised if migrants stow away on their vehicles. ...

Taki's - Steve Sailer: From Taboo to Common Sense - with special attention to 'Philosophy Between the Lines: The Lost History of Esoteric Writing,' by Arthur Melzer - SS: "Today, the extremism of our culture’s demands for attestations of faith in equality and transparency is a mask for the movement back toward censorship and esotericism."

From Taboo to Common Sense

From Taboo to Common Sense

I’m sometimes accused of having created a vast secret corpus of sinister ideas that I keep carefully hidden away from the millions of words I've published.
I’ve always wondered: When exactly would I have had the time to do this? And do I really seem like the kind of writer who would cunningly keep his best ideas unexpressed, especially when there is a big “Publish” button staring me in the face and all I have to do is click on it?
On the other hand, what about the giants of the past who had the brainpower to pull off something as complicated as this? The political scholar Leo Strauss (1899-1973) and many of his neoconservative acolytes have long argued that greats such as Plato and Aristotle had both inoffensive doctrines for the public and “esoteric” teachings for their inner circles.

Straussianism was all the rage a decade ago, when the neoconservatives were flying high and feeling their oats. For example, back in 2003 at the peak of neocon self-regard before their war in Iraq went so definitively wrong, William Kristol and Steven Lenzner trumpeted in The Public Interest
Strauss set himself a remarkable task: the revival of Western reading, and therefore, of philosophizing. ...

VDARE - Derbyshire On Math: Debunking Diversity “Theorems”, Fixing NY Schools - "Academic mathematicians are, in my experience, as susceptible to the siren call of Cultural Marxism as the rest of the academy. (Maybe Professor Abigail Thompson should be awarded the Fields Medal for Mathematical Integrity.)

Derbyshire On Math: Debunking Diversity “Theorems”, Fixing NY Schools

Google Images

Here’s the thing: I have an understanding with VDARE.com’s editors that from time to time I need to write about math. This week is one of those times.
What follows is therefore math-oriented. It’s on-topic, though; at any rate, most of it is, most of the time.
The current issue of Notices of the American Mathematical Societyincludes a most interesting article titled “Does Diversity Trump Ability?
The article examines a 2004 claim by economists Lu Hong and Scott Page to have proved a rigorous mathematical theorem to the effect that, to quote the title of their original paper, “Groups of diverse problem solvers can out-perform groups of high-ability problem solvers.” [In Professor’s Model, Diversity = Productivity, By Claudia Dreifus, NYT, January 8, 2008]
Referring to that paper, the Notices writer tells us:
Its publication in 2004 in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences has given it credibility, and it is widely cited. Its conclusions are presented as mathematical truth. Referring to this work in his 2007 book The Difference (p. 165), Page says, “… the veracity of the diversity trumps ability claim is not a matter of dispute. It’s true, just as 1 + 1 = 2 is true.”
Under careful scrutiny, however, the paper is seen to have essential and irreparable errors.

Cry Me A Rio Grande! WAPO’s Bezos Imposes Cheap Labor Regime on Open Borders WASHINGTON POST

Employees at The Washington Post are finally getting a taste of what they are trying to impose on American workers, as new owner Jeff Bezos is imposing a cheap labor regime on Washington’s leading newspaper by cutting pensions. It couldn't happen to a nicer group of people.
WaPo is a longstanding supporter of mass immigration and infuriatingly resistant to making any connection between American poverty and the deliberate importation of millions of workers from the Third World. It’s therefore a time for Schadenfreude now that the policy consequences of open borders and globalization are biting back. ...

AP / Yahoo: Western Muslims, troubled, rally against extremism (Members of the media are expert at turning every attack on Whites as a story on White racism, such as on 9/11, when the second biggest story was waiting for the massive 'backlash,' as if Whites were going to be surging through the streets of minority neighborhoods wielding ax handles and pitchforks. Never happens. Also does not square with events such as those in Rotherham, England, where over 1400 White girls were held in sex slavery for several years by Muslims without anyone in the Muslim community speaking out.)

Colorful World of Birding Has Conspicuous Lack of People of Color

Photo of a boy using binoculars for bird-watching in Oregon.

If you're a black bird-watcher, "be prepared to be confused with the other black birder." That's what J. Drew Lanham, a wildlife ecology professor at Clemson University in South Carolina, wrote last year in his list of nine race-related "rules."

"Yes, there are only two of you at the bird festival," he wrote in the pages of Orion magazine. "Yes, you're wearing a name tag and are six inches taller than he is. Yes, you will be called by his name at least half a dozen times by supposedly observant people who can distinguish gull molts in a blizzard."
Lanham's sarcasm is warranted. Minorities have always seemed to be underrepresented in U.S. environmental groups. Now there's new data to support that old anecdotal observation.
According to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, in 2011, 93 percent of American birders were white ...
