Americans want legal immigration cut in half: poll

Americans want to see illegal immigrant young adults given legal status, but they are far less forgiving to most others, and want to see a huge reduction in legal immigration as well, according to a new poll released this week by a group that wants to see an immigration crackdown.

Other public polls have shown voters increasingly open to granting illegal immigrants a path to citizenship, and even place that on equal footing with securing the border — but the new poll suggests Americans’ views are too complex to be captured in a single broad question.

In one key finding, most respondents said even legal immigration should be cut by at least half. Currently the U.S. allows in about 1 million legal immigrants a year, but 16 percent said that should be cut to 500,000, another 17 percent wanted to see it drop to 100,000, and a full 26 percent said they want to see a halt to all legal immigration. By contrast, just 16 percent said keep it at 1 million and only 11 percent wanted to see an increase to 2 million. . . .

It shows how unpopular amnesties are that Establishment pollsters have had to rejigger the wording of their questions to present only two choices: 'path to,' as if this were not amnesty, versus mass deportation. Of course a 'path to' is still a path to amnesty and mass deportation is being advocated by almost no politician or group that opposes amnesty.

Although if you invade a nation, deportation should be the logical remedy. Imagine if millions of American citizens flowed into Mexico and Mexican citizens were being told by their ruling elites that mass deportation of illegals is off the table. But Americans are told that mass deportation would make them meanies. By asking people to simply return home to their legal residence?

Never-ending illegal in-migration and mass legal immigration are so obviously against common sense and just plain old mathematics for so many separate reasons that it is astounding that all of these reasons put together still leaves our open-borders overlords not just unmoved, but always redoubling their efforts!
Just one reason--unemployment. Who in their right mind would argue that a never-ending Mississippi River of the unemployed and uneducated would be anything but a disaster for our available job supply?

Just one more reason--the environment and our quality of life. For example, my two senators, who, to protect their identity, I will simply call Dianne and Barbara, pride themselves in being champions of the environment, yet they favor endless amnesties and high legal immigration. Over the years I have asked them countless times 'How many more times can our state's population numbers be redoubled while protecting the environment?'

I have yet to receive an answer from either one of them--which is perfectly symbolic of how the smirking political Establishment has absolutely shut out the majority of American voters on this issue--an issue of our personal security, as well as our economic, environmental and even civilizational survival.
