     Granted, under limited circumstances, such as small homogenous, industrious populations, some form of socialism can operate, but I think of what was said about the "smell of socialism" in the Soviet Union:

     "A blend ... of low-octane gasoline, body order, unwashed frying pans, cheap perfume, brown coal, cabbage, dried urine, and musty newsprint."
