For new readers……

Revolving door and one big happy family! This is Bob Carey, the new director of the ORR. He was previously a VP at the International Rescue Committee. And, what a coincidence, over at the State Department, the Asst. Secretary of State for PRM, Anne Richard, was also a VP at the International Rescue Committee. Gee! Do you think federal contractor, the IRC headed by Brit David Miliband, might have a bit of an inside track to the federal agencies that feed them?
The US Refugee Resettlement Program is administered by two different agencies of the federal government.  The US State Department admits refugees and contracts with the nine major federal resettlement contractors (they call them VOLAGS short for Voluntary Agencies which they definitely are not!) to distribute them.
The Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) in the Dept. of Health and Human  Services is responsible for making sure that myriad grants get out to the contractors and their subcontractors and to manage much of the other day-to-day operation being dictated from Washington.
The ORR has produced a handy map.  When you click on your state, contact information pops up for the bureaucrats who are responsible in your state.
You will see some states are Wilson-Fish states which means they are run pretty much with no state government involvement.  Go here to learn more about Wilson-Fish.
To find which federal resettlement subcontractors have offices near you, go here.
Regarding my reference to David Miliband in the photo caption—Miliband is the first resettlement contractor head honcho to push for Obama to admit 65,000 Syrians before his term ends.
September is an important month in the resettlement process, first because the feds and their contractors are scrambling to bring in as many refugees as possible in hopes of meeting the 70,000 refugee target that Obama set last year.
And, because Obama, by the end of September, will submit his Annual Determination Letter (this one for 2015) to Congress (where it has been rubber-stamped each year) in which he will lay out the goal for FY2016 which begins on October 1.  Watch for a huge jump in the number of Syrians to be admitted and distributed to your towns in the coming fiscal year.
We will be watching to see if any Member of Congress or US Senator says anything about Obama’s picks for 2016.

Trump unstumped: The Donald now has the largest lead of any Republican this election cycle, according to a recent poll showing the real estate developer is beating his nearest competitor (Ben Carson) by sixteen points [Trump lead grows; Clinton slips: poll, AFP, August 27, 2015]. He has displaced Scott Walker to take the lead in Iowa and, perhaps even more telling, has reversed his unfavorability ratings there in an unprecedented way. [This Iowa poll shows just how amazing Donald Trump’s rise has been, by Chris Cillizza, Washington Post, August 30, 2015].

The Beltway Right is unleashing a desperate attack against him, warning that he “is antithetical to the modern conservative movement” (true!) [The anti-Trump angst grows, by Jennifer Rubin, Washington Post, August 30, 2015].

But the truth is that Trump represents a last chance for“conservatism” to remain relevant in American politics. And the borderline hysterical reaction against him reveals the embarrassing fact that political victory, or even influence, is less important to many Conservatism Inc. types than being seen as respectable in the eyes of elite liberal opinion.
Indeed, the problem with Trump seems to be that he may actually serve the interests of the Republican base—something deemed unacceptable inside the Beltway. ...

Invasion of Europe news…..

From The Guardian:
Dresden demo

Demonstrators in Dresden on Saturday—come on in! Germany is rich! Photo: The Guardian
Thousands of people took to the streets of the German city of Dresden on Saturday to send a message of welcome to refugees after a string of violent anti-migrant protests in the region.
Led by protesters holding a huge banner that read “Prevent the pogroms of tomorrow today”, the crowds marched peacefully through the eastern city under the watch of police in riot gear.
“Say it loud, say it clear, refugees are welcome here,” they chanted.
Police said 1,000 people took part in the protest, which was called by the Anti-Nazi Alliance, while organisers put the numbers at 5,000.
[….]
Public opinion is largely behind her [Chancellor Angela Merkel–ed] with 60% of Germans polled by public broadcaster ZDF saying that Europe’s biggest economy is capable of hosting the asylum seekers.
Maybe Merkel isn’t mad, maybe a majority of Germans are!
Now see what is happening in the Netherlands, here and in Finland here.  Load up the buses and send them to Germany!
BTW, the EU has called an emergency meeting for mid-September to discuss the migrant crisis, here. ...

American Thinker - Jared Peterson: Trump and the Fate of the GOP - "Last week George Will joined David Harsanyi in pouring oceans of vitriol and contempt on Donald Trump and his supporters."

Last week George Will joined David Harsanyi in pouring oceans of vitriol and contempt on Donald Trump and his supporters. Will's dismissal of Trump and those who cheer him on -- dripping arrogance and anger -- seems to be a spreading habit among conservative commentators.  I concede, though, few if any writers ever reach Will's level of sneering contempt, superiority and condescension.

This treatment of the Trump phenomenon, by both Republican Party leaders and many conservative commentators, bodes ill for the Party nominee's chances in 2016. A repeat of the presidential elections of 1912 and 1992 is becoming ever more plausible, whether or not a defeated Trump runs a third party campaign.

Will's approach is no way to deal with a political phenomenon that is a direct outgrowth of deep and intense issue disaffection by voters who are among the Republican Party's most dependable. In a two-party -- hence coalition-dependent -- democracy, it's a basic truth that only the politically suicidal insult and belittle a large segment of their Party's most reliable supporters.

John McCain (Trump’s supporters are “crazies"), a man whose distinguishing political trait is a singular lack of judgment, was only providing another example of his well-known cognitive defect. George Will has no excuse. ...

RR Watch - Ann Corcoran: Twin Falls, ID: Article tells us why you must demand answers BEFORE refugees begin arriving - Twin Falls to become Triplet Falls, as in fall of the West into an angry Muslim swarm? --tma

Posted by Ann Corcoran on August 30, 2015
….of course the trick will be trying to figure that out!
Twin Falls, Idaho has developed a very active and competent ‘Pocket of Resistance’ in spite of the local media’s effort to denigrate opponents of the UN/US State Department plan to further seed the community with third world refugees.  This round of controversy began in earnest back in April when the local resettlement contractor bragged to the media that Syrian (mostly Muslim) refugees were coming to Idaho.
Jessica Lilley
Jessica Lilley, USCRI field representative, obviously traveled to Twin Falls from USCRI’s Arlington, Virginia headquarters to help organize against the growing ‘pocket of resistance’ that has developed in Twin Falls. Photo:
You will have to read the whole article from Friday, here at MagicValley.com for details on the latest news.  I can’t post much of it or the editor will have his lawyerssend me another letter, but there is one important thing I want you to see.
First, here are the opening paragraphs:
TWIN FALLS • A refugee center in Twin Falls isn’t likely to go away even if the College of Southern Idaho stops sponsoring its program, officials say.
A local group — the Committee to End the CSI Refugee Center — wants a measure to shutter the center on ballots by May, says the group’s leader, Rick Martin, a widely known right-wing activist [LOL! bias alert!—ed]. They also want to recruit candidates to run for the college’s board of trustees in November 2016 with the goal of phasing out the center.
The group submitted its measure this week to the Twin Falls County Attorney, a preliminary step before the group can begin gathering signatures to get it on the ballot.

Then this!  Once they get a program up and running in your town, it becomes almost impossible to shutter it later because they are in the process of admitting family members of the first group they brought in.  The contractors are usually gleeful to shove that bit of news into critics faces.

Jessica Lilley, a program officer with the U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants [USCRI—ed], addressed the topic Tuesday during a meeting with the Magic Valley Refugee Advocates, a group formed this summer to support the local program.
“You already have a community of refugees here” with family members still oversees, she said, and the U.S. Department of State will want an agency in Twin Falls to fill the gap as the relatives of refugees resettle in the United States.
She goes on to threaten that they will just drop them off in neighboring towns, but they will end up in Twin Falls anyway.

NewsMachete: Hispanic group cancels contract on Donald Trump - Irony: Exclusively Hispanic group hilariously proclaims it "embraces ethnic diversity." - Can't wait to hear what Trump has to say. That he happily kept their deposit, salsa and chips? --tma

A Hispanic builders association has canceled a meeting to be held at a Trump owned resort.

In a stinging denunciation of Donald Trump, the nation’s largest Hispanic construction trade group, the Latin Builders Association, announced Friday that it would cancel its gala at his resort in Doral due to his “recent pattern of bigoted, sexist and ignorant verbal assaults on immigrants, women and veterans.”

Donald Trump has made no verbal assaults on immigrants. He has made true observations about illegal aliens. Illegal aliens are not immigrants. To conflate the two is ignorance, the same ignorance they are accusing Trump of. This is as confusing as someone taking pot calling a kettle black.

And since when has the Latin Builders Association ever spoken up for women or veterans? Probably never. Why is there a "Latin Builders Association" in the first place? Is there a Latin way of building a house? Is there such a thing as Spanish drywall? Do some developers look for a Hispanic builder because they don't want to hire a white one? Or do they proclaim themselves as Hispanic so they can get preferences in government contracts?

Tapanes Llahues said the group also believes “in the freedom of speech, freedom of the press and the rule of law” ...

If they embrace the rule of law, why do they apparently want the law ignored and for illegals to be given amnesty? If they believe in freedom of speech, why are they punishing Trump for exercising his? ...

RR Watch - Ann Corcoran: Spartanburg residents not happy with “pontificating” from Asst. Sec. of State Ann Richard - "Babin bill which seeks to temporarily halt refugee resettlement is a perfectly good excuse to hold a hearing. So what is taking Gowdy so long?"

Embedded image permalink

This is Part II of my earlier post about South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley caving in to the federal government and signaling her willingness to ‘welcome’ refugees to South Carolina, a state which has heretofore not been a big target for resettlement (as have Kentucky, North Carolina and Georgia).  That all changed earlier in the year as residents there learned that federal contractor World Relief was planning to ‘seed’ Spartanburg with refugees from the Middle East, Asia and Africa which touched off a firestorm of criticism.
Yesterday, World Net Daily writer Leo Hohmann filled us in on how things went when the Asst. Secretary of State for Population, Refugees and Migration came to town to try to tamp down the resistance.   See Part I here.
Following a discussion of what Rep. Trey Gowdy’s “murky” role is in the situation, we learn that two of those meeting with Ms. Richard—-Christina Jeffrey and Lynn Kisler—were not impressed.  Spartanburg is in Gowdy’s district.
WND:
Jeffrey said Richard admitted in Monday’s meeting that once a state agrees to participate in the federal refugee program, there is little local residents can do to stop it.
Christina Jeffrey II
Dr. Christina Jeffrey: Where are the hearings?
Another Spartanburg resident, Lynn Kisler, confronted Richard on the issue of national security.
This is priceless!
“Ms. Richard said she experiences terrorist threats whenever she travel overseas, and it was almost like they were already trying to condition us for that, kinda like a terrorist threat is an accepted way of life now, no big deal, and I could not believe my ears,” said Kisler. “I told her my house doesn’t have armed guards, it doesn’t have an 8-foot wall all around it, so for her to compare an embassy abroad to me being in my home among that population, when they want to bring that population here, it made me angry. I interrupted her and I said ‘you have armed guards, I don’t have armed guards.'”
Refugees just like American pilgrims?
Richard also began “pontificating” about how successful the refugee program has been everywhere it has been put in place, Kisler said. The assistant secretary even compared today’s refugees to the early pilgrims who settled America.
“I asked her how do you define success?” Kisler said. “Ask the people of St. Cloud, Minnesota, how successful it’s been there. It has destroyed that area.”
So many Somalis in Minnesota have been caught engaging in terrorist activity and sending money to overseas terrorists that the U.S. Attorney there, Andrew Luger, admitted in April that, “We have a terror recruitment problem in Minnesota.”
Dr. Jeffrey reiterated her call for Gowdy, who is chairman of the House Judiciary Committee Subcommittee on Immigration and Border Security and thus responsible for the refugee program in Congress, to hold hearings:
“For the sake of the rest of the country, we need Trey Gowdy, chairman of the subcommittee with oversight in this area to hold hearings on this under-supervised program that has been around since Jimmy Carter created it,” Jeffrey said.
In fact, the Babin bill which seeks to temporarily halt refugee resettlement is a perfectly good excuse to hold a hearing.  So what is taking Gowdy so long? ...

TOO: Czech President Miloš Zeman suggests European army to halt African invasion

Embedded image permalink

The president of the Czech Republic, Miloš Zeman, has suggested that troops should be used to secure the European Union’s borders against immigration and that a common European army could be formed to achieve this objective. He correctly notes that the failure to repulse the ongoing migrant invasion is due to a lack of will on behalf of European leaders. The EUobserver reports:
The EU could better protect itself from migrants if it had a common army, Czech president Milos Zeman said Tuesday (25 August), while the Czech finance minister, Andrej Babis, called for the closure of the Schengen area’s external borders and for Nato help.
Speaking to Czech ambassadors at Prague castle, Zeman regretted that Frontex, the EU border-control agency, has only three unarmed ships and a few armed ships to patrol the Mediterranean.
“The EU’s fundamental lack is a lack of will for a common border protection”, Zeman said. “Today, a common European army would come in handy” to address the issue, he added.
Central Europeans (see “Can the Ossis Save Europe?“), notably Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, are then taking the lead in warning against the predictable calamity that is the ongoing Afro-Islamic invasion of Europe. ...

Invasion of Europe news….

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has announced that any Syrian who gets to Germany can apply for asylum there.  Of course this is going to be great news for Italy and Greece in particular which are now bearing the greatest burden in the invasion by mostly Middle Easterners and Africans.
Gee, Germany might someday be called the New Syria!
Embedded image permalink
Angela Merkel invites all Syrians to come on in!
This brief article at Time magazine reminds us that the present EU rule on asylum is that those who claim to be persecuted must apply for asylum in the first country they reach on the continent.  They are not permitted to “asylum shop” for a better country, but of course they already are and that is what the pile-up is at Calais.   Those migrants don’t want to apply to stay in France they want to get to the UK where they see they have better prospects for social services.
Merkel is reportedly getting love letters from Syrians.  I fear that Obama will get jealous and want some for himself, love that is.  So watch for it—-65,000 Syrians by the end of his term in office?  See Obama praising Merkel, here.
Here is Time:
The new rule comes as Germany is witnessing a surge in attacks on refugee shelters.
In a move that will affect tens of thousands, Germany will now allow Syrian refugees to stay and apply for asylum instead of deporting them back to their country of arrival.
The Washington Post reports the country has decided to suspend a European Union rule, called the the Dublin Regulation, which says refugees are supposed to stay in the first European country of arrival until their asylum claims are processed. This rule places an unequal burden on Southern European countries like Greece and Italy, which are amongst the easiest to reach by boat from across the Mediterranean. Both Italy and Greece have faced unprecedented levels of migrant inflow this past year.
Under the new policy, even if the refugees first arrive in Greece or Italy but travel northwards to Germany, they will not be deported back to their first country of contact.
Can you hear the sound of marching feet toward the German border?  Italy and Greece will likely soon be sending busloads northward! ...

Refugee Resettlement Watch - Ann Corcoran: Obama praises Merkel on Germany’s ‘welcome’ to Syrians - "I think Obama will do something dramatic in his last year in the White House. Will it be to open the flood gates to 65,000 Syrians? …..and in so doing casts the US (not Obama, but the Republicans!) as mean-spirited, unwelcoming obstructionists.
obama_merkel-kiss
Yuk!
It is fascinating to me that once again Obama is not the target of the criticism.  When the George W. Bush Administration was wisely not moving quickly enough (security concerns!) for the humanitarian industrial complex agitators pushing to resettle Iraqi refugees, it was all about that bad George Bush.
Now that it is Obama’s own Dept. of Homeland Security which says it can’t properly screen Syrians, it isn’t Obama’s fault, it’s the Republicans in Congress that are the meanies.
I hate to say it, but Obama has the legal authority to immediately open the flood gates and Congress can’t do much about it (nor do I think the Republican leadership has the will to do anything).

Invasion of Europe news…….

Here is Deutsche Welle on Obama’s praise for German Chancellor Angela Merkel:
Barack Obama publicly lauded German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s European leadership role in the Syrian refugee crisis. But the US president’s praise also draws attention to his own country’s meager record on the issue.
It does not happen every day that the White House puts out a statement explicitly praising a foreign leader for his or her actions on a certain issue. By doing so and by singling out Berlin’s decision to suspend the so called Dublin rules to allow more Syrian refugees to come to Germany, President Obama was providing crucial support for the chancellor, who has faced criticism at home for being too slow to act.
“I think the US is trying to put their political weight behind that leadership that she is showing,” said Elizabeth Collett, director of the Migration Policy Institute Europe.
Obama’s presidential praise came on Wednesday. Hours earlier, Chancellor Merkel was booed by far-right protesters during a visit to a refugee center in a German town at the center of a recent wave of anti-foreigner violence.
Is Obama starting a conversation back home?
Despite all those efforts and notwithstanding the political and security obstacles Obama is facing, said Betts, the administration’s reaction to the Syrian refugee crisis could have been much stronger than it has been. And in that way, he added, Obama’s remarks regarding Merkel were perhaps also intended as a conversation starter back home.

“Conferring praise on Germany is making a domestic political statement on the need for the US to do more.”

Much more here.

Get ready!

I think Obama will do something dramatic in his last year in the White House.  Will it be to open the flood gates to 65,000 Syrians?  In order to head this off, the subject of Syrian resettlement to the US must become a topic of conversation in the 2016 Presidential election contest—before Obama moves on it!  For those of you in early primary states being treated to many visits from candidates, please bring up the issue of refugee resettlement!

WND - Leo Hohmann: SC Governor Nikki Haley ‘welcomes’ refugees to South Carolina - Electing loonies like Nikki, seems the South will not secede soon. --tma

Some are calling it the “height of hypocrisy,” bordering on demagoguery.
Haley and Jindal
If Haley has any plans to run for higher office, she should have a chat with fellow governor Bobby Jindal who has been very tough on the subject of Muslim immigration to America. Maybe he can help set her straight? Jindal wants to restrict Muslim immigration to the US --AC

Nikki Haley, South Carolina’s Republican governor, came out last Thursday and blasted possible White House plans to bring Guantanamo Bay prisoners to her state.
The governor called a news conference and didn’t mince words.
“We are absolutely drawing a line that we are not going to allow any terrorist to come into South Carolina,” Haley said. “We are not going to allow that kind of threat, we are not going to allow that kind of character to come in.
“My job is to protect the people of this state, and I take that very personally,” she continued. “I will take that personally the entire way through, so that the president, the Congress and anyone involved in this decision understands they are not wanted, they are not needed, and we will not accept them in South Carolina.”
Yet, at the same time she was drawing a red line against Gitmo terrorists who would stay locked in a brig off the coast of Charleston, Haley was opening her arms wide to welcome “refugees” from jihadist strongholds in the Middle East and Africa.
[….]
Haley has come down on the side of the State Department and the refugees, saying she trusts the vetting process, despite hundreds of arrests and active investigations involving refugees or children of refugees across the U.S. She has chosen to believe the State Department over the FBI, which is responsible for screening the refugees and warned that in some cases it’s an impossible task. ...

I have two confessions to make.

First, I was a university professor from the late 1960s to the late 1990s.  Over four-plus decades at the same institution, I went from Assistant Professor to Associate Professor to Full Professor.  I enjoyed my career, most of the time.

I took early retirement for personal and professional reasons.

Subsequently, I was an adjunct professor at another university where a close family member is also employed.  I retired from that post mostly for personal reasons.  After nearly 40 years of teaching -- I was a high school social studies teacher for two years before pursuing the Ph.D. -- I no longer enjoyed teaching.

My second confession is that I’m glad I’m no longer in Academe.  There are several reasons for this. ...

RR Watch - Ann Corcoran - Sign the petition! Demand local approval for refugee resettlement

Posted by Ann Corcoran on August 29, 2015
A petition is circulating at GoPetition that asks you to tell elected officials at all levels of government that decisions, to “plant” third worlders in your towns and cities, rest with the local citizens and the local elected government and not with edicts from Washington.

The petition is here.  And, if you would like to join the national grassroots effort to protect your communities from colonization,go here.

To my knowledge, this is the first time anything like this is being organized on the national level!
Here is a portion of the description of the problem from GoPetition:
The federal Refugee Resettlement (RR) program is operated today by the Global Left, the UN, Islam, and religious frauds. The goal is to Change America by Changing its People.
As a result, we are drowning in refugees who are destroying our Constitutional freedoms, overburdening our welfare system and posing a genuine national security threat.
Will you as an American citizen stand up and fight this national suicide via LEGAL IMMIGRATION?
By signing this petition, you are telling your Governor, Congress and state representatives:
• I will not tolerate giving my tax dollars to secretly “planted”, unvetted refugees that would otherwise go to aid poor families in my community.
• I demand you do your job by representing the Will of The People rather than the Resettlement industry that may be funding your campaigns.
Continue here.  If you feel more comfortable, you can be anonymous, but please sign it!
Go here to see who has already signed.  And, check out the very cool interactive map that will hopefully be filled in by thousands of you signing the petition.
