SACRAMENTO — A federal appeals court on Friday allowed supporters of then-presidential candidate Donald Trump to proceed with a lawsuit alleging they were beaten after San Jose police steered them into a crowd of anti-Trump protesters.
Police and the city of San Jose can’t claim that officers have immunity from being sued in the aftermath of the June 2016 confrontation outside a Trump campaign rally, a three-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled.
Nineteen Trump supporters sued the city and individual police, alleging that officers guided them into a violent protest, barred them from finding a safer way out and then stood by while protesters assaulted them.
The justices said the Trump supporters “have alleged sufficiently that the Officers increased the danger to them,” and that the police acted with “deliberate indifference to that danger.” ...

Two asylum rules pushed by Rep. David Price (D-NC) as well as Rep. Kevin Yoder (R-KS) and approved by the GOP-majority House Appropriations Committee would allow foreign nationals seeking refuge in the U.S. to migrate based on claims that they are fleeing domestic abuse or gang violence.
The asylum standards would be a direct rebuke of Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ efforts to strengthen the country’s lax asylum system. He made clear in a memo that claiming to be fleeing domestic abuse or gang violence are not legitimate claims for asylum in the U.S.
The Republican establishment and Democrats’ reversal of Sessions’ memo would give the full populations of Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras the right to migrate and seek asylum in the U.S., as all three Central American countries have been crippled for years by gangs.
As Breitbart News noted, this translates to about 32 million Central Americans being given the right to migrate. This would mean a foreign population about half the size of the American Midwest — where 67 million Americans live — would have the right to come to the country and permanently resettle.
That foreign population given the right to migrate to the U.S. would at least be 12 times the population of Chicago ...

I went to the Canada Day parade from Fort Street to Dominion Square, Montreal, where there were thousands of pieces of free birthday cake dished out by a crew of mostly Latinos and Caribbeans with a security team of Haitians. The clients evident were Chinese, Filipino, Muslims with hijabs and American tourists with cameras.
The parade was a quarter or more Chinese complete with dragons, representing communist order and ethnic regions. The rest was from dozens of countries around the world each waving their flag and proudly sporting their costumes, music, and dances. It is the new proposal of the European Union to try to solve the constant arrival of migrants to the countries of Southern Europe. Member States within the EU willing to receive migrants will receive from the community budget 6,000 euros per migrant. Another 500 euros will be given for each asylum seeker, to the migrants origin countries for “travel expenses”. The intention was advanced by the Financial Times and confirmed on the 21 of July by the European Commission, in a press release.
The plan follows in response to the closure of Italian ports and borders to migrants and the refusal by the governments of Hungary and Poland to integrate and host them. The EU also plans to fund processing centers for asylum seekers.
The Financial Times concludes that Spain will probably be “the biggest beneficiary” of the payment of 6,000 euros per migrant, taking into account that last week alone it welcomed 1,200 African migrants. The Netherlands, Portugal, Malta and France are also on the list of the Financial Times as countries that will benefit the most economically from the subsidies. ...

Some 400 migrants from sub-Saharan Africa reached Spain Thursday after storming a double barrier between Morocco and the Spanish territory of Ceuta, with some attacking security forces with quicklime, police said.
The scramble over the barrier is the biggest in Ceuta since February 2017, when more than 850 migrants entered the overseas territory over four days.
It comes as Spain becomes the number one destination for migrants crossing the Mediterranean by boat, surpassing Italy with 19,586 arrivals so far this year, according to the International Organization for Migration.
A spokesman for the Guardia Civil police force in Ceuta told AFP the migrants managed to climb over the double barrier, which is covered in small blades, early on Thursday morning.
They scrambled over "all of a sudden, with much violence," and some attacked police with quicklime they had in tubes and bottles.
As a result, "more than a dozen police" were injured, four of whom had to go to hospital for burns in the face and arms. ...

“Why are you writing about George Will?” asked a 30-something friend when I told him I was working on this article. That is a perfectly natural question. Many people his age do not know there was a time when George Will may have been the most prominent conservative in the United States. In the pre-internet days of the early 1990s—when I was looking for alternatives to the dominant leftism that seemed to infest every institution—Mr. Will may have been challenged only by William F. Buckley as the nation’s best-known conservative.
With columns in the Washington Post and Newsweek, and weekly appearances on ABC’s Sunday news show This Week with David Brinkley, Mr. Will was everywhere. The Pulitzer Prize winner was sharp, well-spoken and, to his credit, often unafraid to take on (however tepidly) leftist issues such as affirmative action and campus political correctness. Today, Mr. Will still has a column in the Washington Post and is a commentator on MSNBC, but he is hardly ever quoted or mentioned unless he is criticizing President Trump or conservatives. Even then, his opinions are basically a footnote. Rush Limbaugh spent less than a minute brushing aside Mr. Will’s recent comment that he hopes Democrats win the 2018 mid-term elections.
How did one of America’s leading conservative pundits fall so far and so fast? The answer can be found in a 1986 article in Modern Age. Written by a then little-known Samuel Francis, this was a review of Mr. Will’s first book, Statecraft as Soulcraft: What Government Does, but Francis also critiqued “conservatism properly understood,” to use one of Mr. Will’s favorite phrases. ...

Just after an acid attack in Worcester on a 3-year-old we now hear of a knife attack after a chase of a 7-year-old. The attack took place in a Liverpool park by a knifeman wearing a mask.
It is believed that the attacker, one of a gang of both males and females in the New Brighton area, all wearing Grand theft auto style masks, is approximately 18-years-old.
He chased and overtook the young boy then assaulted him with the knife, injuring his arm.
Detective Inspector, Mike Dalton said: “This is a shocking incident which has left a seven-year-old child understandably very shaken and upset”.
Violent crime attacks on young children are among the crimes on the rise in the UK. ...
