Brandon Tampa Florida & Death of Western Civilization

When Home is No Longer Home
Jack Krak, American Renaissance, February 22, 2013
A fixture in advertising, but not in everyday life.
A fixture in advertising, but not in everyday life.
Demography is destiny.
Everyone is familiar with the idea that every city has two malls: the one where white people shop and the one where white people used to shop. After a trip to my old home town in Florida over the Christmas holidays, I’m still trying to find that first mall.
For more than 20 years, until 1998, I lived in Brandon, a suburb of Tampa of about 100,000 people. When I was young, nearly all of those people were white, and the rest were black. Despite nearby strawberry fields and the remnants of the citrus industry, there was no noticeable presence of Hispanics. It was essentially the 90/10 white/black split that was the norm in much of the country until the 1970s but that endured in pockets until a bit later. Brandon was one of those pockets.
My high school yearbook from 1988 confirms that my memory is correct: a Hernandez here and a Rodriguez there, but they were very much the exception to an overwhelming white majority. That was just 25 years ago on the calendar, but it might as well be ancient history.
In 1998 I left Florida and moved to Poland, where I still live. At that time, the visible effects of immigration were just beginning to appear. A few more brown kids at the mall, a few more Asians where before there had been basically none; not huge numbers but just enough to notice. I had no way of knowing that these were the first signs of a transformation that would turn Brandon into a town that is now barely recognizable to me. ...

Steve Sailer Harvard Princeton MIT Stanford & Overpopulation

The Fence Around the Ivory Tower

Steve Sailer, Taki's Magazine, 2/27/2013

Google Images

With immigration policy back in the news, I’m reminded that when I was a lad 40 years ago, the cutting-edge wisdom was that rapid population growth was a major problem. (Granted, my parents didn’t let me stay up school nights to watch Johnny Carson, who had Paul Ehrlich, author of the bestseller The Population Bomb, on The Tonight Show about 20 times.) Yet nobody else these days seems to remember the arguments that once struck America’s influential classes as persuasive.

Sure, the doomsayers’ prophecies were overblown, but the notion that moderation in the size of the population has its advantages has hardly been debunked. Nevertheless, the conventional wisdom has simply flipped 180 degrees. That an increase in the quantity of residents isn’t an unalloyed good for Americans is now widely sneered at as some crackpot theory that only hippies on acid would countenance. Everybody knows that a bigger population is Good for the Economy.
In the current immigration debate (if we can call the coordinated marketing campaign we’re being subjected to a “debate”), we are told by Wall Street, academia, corporate shills, and the media that a stable population would be a dire fate. (Not that the US is in terrible danger of that: The number of inhabitants has grown by 34 million in this century.) Thus, illegal aliens are doing us a big favor by coming here to have the children they can’t afford to have in their own countries.
And yet the experts enlightening us about the wonders of a bigger populace don’t seem to be in any hurry for their own communities and colleges to grow. From checking the statistics of elite institutions, you might almost get the impression that the “revealed preference” of people who are good at getting what they want is for very slow population growth. ...
"While it’s fun to point out the hypocrisy of the most successful, it’s also worth noting that maybe they are on to something in their desire for quality over quantity in people. But that’s the last thing we’re supposed to think about it when it comes to immigration policy."

Excellent. It made perfect quality-of-life sense for the U.S. population to have started to level off around the year 2,000, but by then our hostile ruling elites were merrily flooding us with our high-fertility racial replacements. As I write this, looking at the U.S. Census Bureau's Population Clock, rounding off to the nearest 100,000: U.S. 315,400,000/World 7, 069, 100,000. According to the World Bank, the earth's population is now growing at about 200,000 per day.

People can quibble over exactly what all this means, but by any reasonably sane environmental or orderly quality-of life societal measure, that constitutes overpopulation. And yet for decades we have had a constant drumbeat in the media that the very idea of overpopulation has been totally 'discredited,' and that the planet's population is just about to level off and then start plunging. But then why the urgent campaign to sell the idea? Just let the world's population level off and begin to drop and there will be your proof! It isn't as if Mexicans, Muslims, Chinese, Indians, Nigerians or what have you are going to forget how to reproduce.

Seems that many of the same suspects who loudly claim that overpopulation is discredited are those who say that the idea of race is merely a 'social construct' and can't wait for a more wonderfully diverse and more populous Western civilization--no doubt as long as all this does not take place upon the quiet low-crime leafy streets where they comfortably reside. (Some liberals talk about overpopulation, but usually go comatose on endless massive in-migration.)

A few months back the popular science magazine Discover had a cover article devoted to how the idea of overpopulation was just so very laughably old-hat and wrongheaded. But I had to ask myself, keeping in mind the 315+ million and the 7+ billion figures, and the 200 thousand increase per day, why in the world would a science magazine turn the world's future alleged LACK of population, of all topics, into such a big story? But then I couldn't help noticing that the editor, now gone, had formerly been an editor at that towering institution of scientific objectivity, at least a couple of rungs above the Max Planck Institute, the New York Times. That brought to my face a knowing smile of painfully acquired wisdom.

One of the reasons coming to Taki's Magazine is often such a breath of fresh air is that I suspect that at this point I could buy a subscription to, say, Formica Tabletop Times, Foot Fetish Quarterly, Angus Cattle Yearly Roundup or the Recombinant Genetics News & Silicon Valley Shopper, open up the first issue, and I would immediately find myself being force-fed the same mandatory Cultural Marxist anti-Western narrative. Not saying it's a 'conspiracy,' but with relentless ubiquitous ruling elites like ours, who needs a conspiracy?

Elites Celebrate Diversity Londoners Get Teeth Punched Out

CCTV Punch Attacks: Michael Ayoade Jailed

CCTV Punch Attacks: Michael Ayoade Jailed

A man who punched a teenage girl and a female student, leaving them unconscious on the ground, has been jailed for four years.
Michael Ayoade, 35, was caught on CCTV staging the random attacks in Plaistow, east London.
In the second attack on November 13 last year, he jogged up behind a 16-year-old girl in the High Street and punched her in the head. The teenager fell to the ground, breaking three of her teeth.
A year earlier, Ayoade punched a university student in the side of the head at Plaistow tube station. His victim, Daniella Montieth, was taken to hospital with a broken tooth.
Passing sentence at Inner London Crown Court, Judge Roger Chapple said Ayoade, of Greengate Street, Plaistow, had launched "vicious, unprovoked attacks on young, lone females".
He said: "These images are indeed worth many thousands of words. The footage captures graphically the shocking violence of these attacks.
"In both cases there was but one blow. In the case of (the 16-year-old) it can plainly be seen from the CCTV footage that the force behind the blow was massive.
"The ferocity of the blow that you struck to her after running up behind her with full force was truly shocking.
"In both cases the force of the blow was such as to render the victims unconscious albeit mercifully not for long."
Ayoade, who is originally from Nigeria, followed the teenager for 800m before attacking her.
Prosecutor Joel Smith told the court Ayoade said she had "looked at him in a rude way" and that he could not go through the rest of the day having taken "an insult from a little person like that".
Ayoade, who was arrested shortly after the attack, admitted two counts of assault causing actual bodily harm and one of possessing cannabis after a bag of the drug was found at his home.
Defending, Gillian Frost said Ayoade, who had smoked three or four cannabis joints and drunk a cup of vodka before attacking the teenager, had not wanted to cause more serious harm to either woman.
He was jailed for four years for the attack on the teenager and 19 months for punching the student, although the two sentences will run concurrently.
There was no separate penalty for the cannabis charge.

Birmingham Alabama Dies of "Celebrate Diversity!"

Civil Rights and the Collapse of Birmingham, Alabama

By John BennettAmerican Thinker, February 25, 2013

Google Images

Birmingham, Alabama is considered by many to be the birthplace of the civil rights movement. Today, African-Americans in Birmingham benefit from a numerical majority in the population, corresponding majorities in government jobs, and political control of the city. But civil rights won't address what ails the city now.
Birmingham is recognized as one of the most violent and poorly-run cities in the nation. The city runs a massive deficit, and is county seat of Jefferson County, which recently cut a deal with a European bank as part of the largest government bankruptcy in U.S. history.
Underlying this fiasco is a mixture of problems, none of which can be solved by the civil rights agenda, or by liberalism in any form. This is not to suggest that those rights should be rolled back, but to point out that today's solutions will not come from civil rights.
Blacks in Birmingham have now obtained equal rights, special protection for those rights, preferential enforcement of those rights, a demographic majority, and a near monopoly on government employment. Moreover, that panoply of rights and benefits is funded by the nation's highest sales tax. The results should be a progressive success story. Instead, Jefferson County's bankruptcy stemms in part from an epic and at times grimly amusing corruption scandal that resulted in the conviction of at least 22 people. Those convicted officials include the former mayor of Birmingham, Larry Langford. ...

Restore Hetch Hetchy Uncover Paradise

 Google Images

Situated inside Yosemite National Park, the Hetch Hetchy Valley was described by John Muir as “one of nature’s rarest and most precious mountain temples.” The pristine Tuolumne River flowed along the valley floor, surrounded by flowered meadows and ancient forests which teemed with bears and bobcats, rushes and eagles. Indeed, Hetch Hetchy Valley was considered one of the most unique and diverse ecosystems in the world.

Initially protected by the establishment of Yosemite National Park, in 1913 the city of San Francisco won congressional approval to build the O’Shaughnessy Dam which buried this extraordinary wilderness valley under 300 feet of water. Although John Muir was unsuccessful in preventing this from happening, his rigorous campaign resulted in the creation of an international environmental conservation movement.

Modern engineering advances afford us the opportunity to remove the reservoir and create one of the most ambitious and exciting environmental restoration projects in human history. As a living laboratory, Hetch Hetchy will advance the science of restoration by providing biologists, ecologists and botanists from all over the world with the chance to apply cutting-edge science to re-establishing lost habitats.

Robert Doyle Harold Michael Zany Aussie Diversity

Multiculturalism's here to stay, so let's embrace it and look to the future

Harold Mitchel

Melbourne Mayor Robert Doyle - Google Images

Melbourne has a very popular lord mayor in Robert Doyle, and I was honoured to sit with him at the annual Weary Dunlop Lunch, which celebrates the great surgeon who worked with such humility in the prison camps of the Burma-Thailand railway. ...

But as the lord mayor made his speech, he mentioned something that has brought home the real and exciting nature of the country that we have become. He said more than 200 languages are spoken in Melbourne, and I am sure the same is true for Sydney. ...

I am not saying that we forget our roots in the ''old country''. Britain has given us, and India and Pakistan, the basis for strong civil societies and powerful ships of state, but let's not get so sentimental that we can't see where the world is going. ...

Hard to say whether the above represents self-deception or just plain old deception, but, no, the world is not going this way. It is only the First World, or the Western world, or white nations that are going this way. Notice how the article lumps together international production and trade with the imagined necessity of having a vast international workforce within a single nation.

If the world were truly going this way, for example, India, China and Japan would have millions of high-birthrate white citizens working away in vibrant multicultural societies, where ethnic Indians, Chinese and Japanese would be bursting with anticipatory glee over a near future when they will be demographically phased out as the governing majority and then phased out altogether.

It says all we need to know about the current state of Western civilization that such hostile elites are firmly in power, pursuing policies that public opinion polls have shown for decades are thoroughly unpopular with a clear majority of voters, instead of these off-planet Utopian elites being laughed out of office and into oblivion, or, better yet, tarred and feathered and ridden out of town on a rail.

Patterson 1965 'Eve of Destruction' --Understatement

BOOK REVIEW: ‘The Eve of Destruction’

Gary Anderson, Washington Times, 2/20/2013

By James T. Patterson
Basic Books, $28.99, 344 pages

The old Roman Empire had it right. Conquering generals receiving a triumph were required to have a slave riding with them in their chariot whispering “Sic transit gloria” (All glory is fleeting). Presidents who are re-elected need a similar reminder. Since the presidential election of 1964, every president who has been re-elected has claimed some kind of a “mandate.” Nearly all have come to grief in their second terms. PresidentReagan and President Clinton survived with their reputations tarnished by Iran Contra and the Lewinsky debacle respectively; in Mr. Clinton’s case he just barely survived. Watergate destroyed President Nixon. However, no one was so consumed by the hubris of a huge re-election mandate more than Lyndon Johnson after his 1964 landslide. “The Eve of Destruction” is largely the tale of that fall from grace. President Obama should read this book. ...

Setting aside the fact that a lot of young men will try to "merely" save "their precious skins" when an empire is fighting a war for which even the government could never quite manage to come up with a clear and consistent justification, the most significant change in 1965 was in immigration law, which would thereafter set the United States on the inexorable path of becoming an ever more third-world nation.

As far as Lyndon Johnson doing more than anyone else to "advance civil rights," yes, we can see the ultimate shining results of that achievement each day by visiting such Edens of brotherly love as Detroit, Flint, Camden and Memphis (best not at night), not to mention all the other vibrant multicultural gardens of urban delights, such as teeming Shangri-L.A.

Nashville Little Kurdistan End of Red State America

Nashville's new nickname: "Little Kurdistan"

 Jennifer Harper, Washington Times, 2/23/2012

From Google Images

The home of the Grand Ole Opry has earned a new nickname: “Little Kurdistan.”

And no wonder. According to a new analysis of foreign born populations by demographer, Wendell Cox, the fastest growth in the numbers of newcomers is taking place in unusual spots around America, all essentially in Red States. Topping the list is Nashville, which has doubled its number of immigrants in the last decade.

“Besides the Grand Old Opry, the city also boasts the nation’s largest Kurdish population, and a thriving ‘Little Kurdistan,’ as well as growing Mexican, Somali and other immigrant enclaves,” says Joel Kotkin, a contributor to Forbes magazine who analyzed the implications.
“Other cities are equally surprising,” he says.

In the second spot, it’s Birmingham, Alabama - followed by Indianapolis, Louisville, and Charlotte, NC, which have all doubled their foreign born population between 2000 and 2011.

In sixth place is Richmond, Virginia; followed by Raleigh, North Carolina; Orlando and Jacksonville in Florida, and finally Columbus, Ohio.

These states are Republican friendly, and don’t fit the profile of a liberal immigrant haven. ...

The article does not mention that this is not simply a matter of newcomers moving to high-growth 'red state' areas, but the federal government inundating European Americans with the teeming overflow populations of the Third World, until red states and the entire United Sates turn Third World. A majority of Americans are against all this, but they mostly just keep their heads down and do nothing to save their grandkids' grandkids.

Additional USDA Video Excerpts Revealing Compulsory “Cultural Sensitivity Training” Program

John Derbyshire: Are Books (& the West) Dying?

February 21, 2013
The Book: An Elegy

I’m nine months out of chemotherapy and getting back up to speed now. I started reviewing books again: just did Roger Scruton’s latest for the upcoming American Spectator, a couple on different topics for future issues of The New Criterion, and the new Coolidge biography for (this week, unless I miss the deadline). I get all the Coolidge books; I expect to get the next one for review any day now. You write a book about Calvin Coolidge, I’m your reviewer. I don’t mind: I let myself in for it.
All of which has me thinking about books. The thoughts are not happy ones. I have a house full of books. After this recent close encounter with Azrael, I have been glumly pondering the fate of all my books when I finally turn in my lunch pail. For sure the kids won’t want them. Though they are bright and capable, their souls belong to the gadget age; neither reads books. Probably my books will just become landfill. ...

The white authors discussed in and about this essay, except for the ones used as examples of evil, will be increasingly phased out, along with Western civilization itself, as the Third Word continues to pour into and crowd out and vilify the First. Reading any big profound books will also take a nosedive due to cultural differences, regardless of new technologies.

I sometimes wonder what part of the death of large city newspapers can be attributed to this. For example, how many Mexicans, Hondurans, etc,  in Los Angeles are going to read, say, some multi-part examination in the L.A. Times on how the U.S. got pulled into a long war in Iraq? One of the few silver linings of the demise of the West is that most of these dying hard-copy newspapers and magazines eagerly lobbied for the third-worldization that is doing them in, by way of  countless PC-slanted stories and pro-open-borders editorials.

Note: Have not been able to read all the fine comments on this outstanding article, but the Truman Capote reference by 'world's greatest orator' reminds me of when Capote said of Jack Kerouac's 'On the Road,' "That's not writing. That's typing."

Manhattan 4th graders Get Slavery Math Questions

'How many times did he get whipped in a month?' Outrage as respected New York elementary school is discovered setting math problems based on slavery

  • Teachers at respected East Manhattan elementary school, PS 59 Beekman Hill International School set the assignment to a fourth grade class and tried to hand it out to another before a complaint was made. A student teacher lifted the lid on the controversial assignment after being asked to photocopy it. State Senator calls for teacher who drafted assignment and the one who most recently set it to her class to be removed.

Controversy: The questions, pictured, were drawn up by a fourth grade class last month and were to be set to another class in the year group last week. A teaching assistant stopped them being assigned - outraged by their content

Outraged parents have hit out at a New York elementary school after it emerged 9-year-old pupils were being set math problems about the killing and beating of slaves yesterday.

Two questions on a homework assignment set by a teacher at PS 59 Beekman Hill International have caused uproar for asking pupils to subtract the number of dead slaves from alive ones and calculate the number of times a slave was whipped over a month.

'One slave got whipped five times a day. How many times did he get whipped in a month (31 days)? Another slave got whipped nine times a day. How many times did he get whipped in a month? How many times did the two slaves get whipped together in one month?,' read one question. ...

How about math questions highlighting the vastly disproportionate black-on-white violent crime rates?  Seriously, the U.S. and other Western nations run around the world fighting anti-democratic insurgencies, but don't seem to realize that these things, like the story above, represent simmering black, Latino, Muslim and other insurgencies right in their own backyards, most of which Western ruling elites have brought on themselves--and the rest of us!--by believing that they can ship in millions of people from incompatible cultures and then replace, say, Englishmen or Frenchmen with, say, Iraqis or Somalis, or you name it, and Western civilization will just keep humming happily right along.

Critics of such clueless off-planet utopianism are often called things like "haters" or "white supremacists," but aren't the real white supremacists those who believe that Western culture is so superior that you can just throw anyone into its current big multicultural stew pot and they will be magically transformed into being oriented toward Western values, respecting things like freedom of speech or religion? But why should they? Such values may play no part of their own cultural traditions, which are to them just as obviously sane and sensible as our core cultural values are to us.

Rebuilding New York: Nature Can Also Save Lives

Rebuilding Better In New York
Eileen Fretz, Flood Policy Director

Aftermath of Hurricane Sandy on Staten Island, NY
Soon after Hurricane Sandy hit, devastating much of the Northeast, politicians and experts took to the press to urge the government to help communities rebuild “better”. But what exactly does rebuilding “better” mean?
American Rivers offered some basic suggestions:
  • Rebuild in the right places by protecting and restoring floodplains, wetlands, and barrier islands as natural defenses to buffer the impacts of future storms.
  • Rebuild in the right way by improving infrastructure and strengthening building codes and zoning.
  • Rebuild with an understanding of what we’re up against by incorporating climate science, modeling and uncertainty into flood risk management and preparedness plan.
So, three months after the storm, is the region rebuilding better? ...

600,000 move out in decade of 'white flight' from London: White Britons are now in minority in the capital

  • Census figures show that 620,000 white Britons left the capital in a decade. White Britons are the minority in London for the first time. They make up 45 per cent of London's population, with Asians being the second largest group.

More than 600,000 white British Londoners have left the capital in a decade. Census figures show that between 2001 and 2011 the level of ‘white flight’ reached 620,000. It is the equivalent of a city the size of Glasgow – made up entirely of white Britons – moving out of the capital. ...

The end of the world has indeed happened. It did not happen on a specific day, but has spread out over several decades. The world that disappeared was a world where most children knew how to read and write. A world where we admired the heroes rather than the victims. A world where political machines had not turned into the soul grinding machines. A world where we had more role models than rights. A world where one could understand what Pascal had meant when he wrote that entertainments distracted us from living a real human life. A world where the borders safeguarded those who lived their way of life and a life of their own. ...

Philly Burqas: Political Correctness Kills Again

PIPES: When burqas become accessories to crime

Criminals can hide behind Islamic garb

Daniel Pipes, Washington Times, 2/21/2013

When it comes to using female Islamic garb as an accessory to crime, Philadelphia, the city where I live, has quietly, unassumedly, become the capital of the Western world.

First, a tutorial on Islamic coverings, all of which tend to be called veils in English, but which fall into three main categories. Some (the abaya, hijab, chador, jilbab or khimar) cover parts of the body, especially the hair, but reveal the face and identity of the woman; some cover the face (the yashmak) but show the body shape; and some hide everything, including the identity and gender of the wearer. The latter — our topic here — is best described as a full-body cover: it in turn has two types, those that cover the person entirely (the chadari or burqa) or those with a slit for the eyes (the haik or niqab).

By my count, the Philadelphia region has had 15 robberies (or attempted robberies) of financial institutions in the past six years in which the thieves relied on an Islamic full-body cover. These took place in January 2007, June 2007, May 2008 (two), October 2009 (two), November 2009, February 2011, June 2011, December 2011, January 2012, March 2012 (two) and April 2012 (two). The most violent one took place on May 3, 2008, when Police Sgt. Stephen Liczbinski was killed in a shootout following a robbery by perpetrators wearing burqas. One of the criminals also died in the exchange....

the very strangeness and aloofness of these garments affords their wearers an extraordinary degree of protection. As in other cases (notably a farcical purchase of alcohol in Toronto liquor stores by a 14-year-old boy in a burqa), clerks so fear being accused of racism or “Islamophobia” that they skip established methods, such as asking a niqabi to establish her (or his) identity.

this is deadly serious business, involving thefts, rapes and murders. Finally, this problem has a simple solution: Ban the niqab and burqa in public places, as has been done in France and Belgium. [bold type added]

Victor Hanson Neocon v. Why Civilizations Fall

HANSON: Why do societies give up?

Slicing up a shrinking pie breeds class envy, then ruin

By Victor Davis Hanson, Washington Times, 2/18/2013

Illustration by Alexander Hunter for The Washington Times

Why do once-successful societies ossify and decline?

Hundreds of reasons have been adduced for the fall of Rome and the end of the Old Regime in 18th-century France. Reasons run from inflation and excessive spending to resource depletion and enemy invasion, as historians attempt to understand the sudden collapse of the Mycenaeans, the Aztecs and, apparently, the modern Greeks. In literature from Catullus to Edward Gibbon, wealth and leisure — and who gets the most of both — more often than poverty and exhaustion implode civilization. ...

I have great respect for Dr. Hanson's overall scholarship, but it has to be said that liberals lie through lying, while neocons (some unknowingly?) lie through half-truths. For example, in writing about Hiroshima and Detroit trading places in their bombed-out appearance, there is no mention of the teensy fact that the earlier economically booming Detroit was largely European American, while today's dangerous dilapidated Detroit looks pretty much like black-majority cities everywhere, whether, by the way, they happen to be in 'blue' or 'red' states--Memphis anyone?

About the only time neocons mention race is to try to prove that if it weren't for nutty and destructive liberal Democrats--and, yes they are both of those things--minorities today would be successful industrious little entrepreneurial Republicans or libertarians. This neocon denial almost becomes master satire with Hanson's cheerful news of our "strong demographic growth." Yes, growth of nonwhites--who will not be able to maintain Western civilization after our globalist elites finish demographically eliminating European Americans, as well as Europeans throughout all Western nations. And this has to be told to a prominent historian who specializes in classical Western civilizations?

Rather than playing amateur psycho-sociologists and talking about societies giving up, it makes more sense to ask: Why do civilizations fall? The pattern is that successful nations are built by a certain population of people who have successfully jelled in a certain way. As these nations become more successful, they grow until they may become empires--which is the kiss of death, no matter how slow the final end.

Such empires start burning through natural resources like there is no tomorrow, as well as sending out giant straws and sucking up resources from the far reaches of their empire, at the same time importing vast numbers of alien peoples for cheap docile labor and to populate their military. Of course during all of this time the population grows and there is an improved standard of living, and so it appears to leaders and their followers that all that is necessary is just to continue pursuing the same expansionist house-of-cards policies.

But here's the kicker. During all of this time the original population and their unique genetic stock is being diluted and overwhelmed, until the original people who built the successful nation become a shadow of their former selves and begin to wink out like so many dying twinkling stars. During this time of course government has become bigger and bigger, and there are all sort of societal dysfunctions and decay, but these are more symptoms that the machine is starting to wobble and grind to a halt, rather than the being the original causes.

So then, given their earlier great empires, why weren't modern Egypt, Greece or Italy the first to land astronauts on the moon? Because, no matter what might be the positive merits of their populations today, they are no longer the same people. Someday take the time to look at the artwork depicting those who founded the great classical civilizations of Egypt, Greece or Rome and compare them to photos of the populations and their leaders of those same nations today. If the recent Japanese tsunami had wiped out 95 percent of Japan, Japan could have proudly risen again. Detroit will never come back because the people who built that civilization are gone from Detroit. Is that really such a difficult concept to understand?

So when civilizations burn through their natural resources like there is no tomorrow, it is not just things like topsoil, underground water aquifers and forests that are being vacuumed away, but also the civilization's unique genetic resources, the very biological stuff that made the civilization successful in the first place. You can be beaten down and down and still come back if you are, say, Japan or China. But you, your family, your people and your civilization can no longer come back if you and your people are ultimately erased from the scene.
