Well, it was awesome to watch: on Fox News Sunday’s February 9^th show, the fight card matched up the (normally) well-spoken Pulitzer-prize-winning-columnist, baseball aficionado, political philosopher “Gentleman George” Will against the attractive, blonde, recent-Catholic-convert and brawler Laura Ingraham, the talk-radio host, author, Fox News commentator, and frequent (and often Traditionalist-sounding) fill-in for Conservatism Inc.’s CEO, Bill O’Reilly. The subject: amnesty. Will was bloodied and bowed — sprawled on the mat, and unable to get up, by the end of the go-round on the panel segment. . . .

Silicon Valley touts itself as a meritocracy where people climb the economic ladder based on the power of their ideas. But many people of color can't even find that ladder, let alone climb it.

They're not part of the valley's white-male-dominated "bro culture," advocates say, and aren't connected to the social and educational networks where companies recruit talent.

"Shame on Silicon Valley, but shame on the rest of us, too," said Van Jones, a former veteran Bay Area activist and current co-host of CNN's "Crossfire."

His Oakland nonprofit, Rebuild the Dream, is one of the driving forces behind Start-Up Weekend Oakland, which begins Friday at the Impact Hub Oakland. More than 300 participants are expected to take part in a hackathon with an overriding theme of driving more African Americans and Latinos into the tech world's recruitment pipeline.

It's part of Rebuild the Dream's national campaign dubbed Yes We Code.

Organizers say their goal is "a Silicon Valley that lives up to the dreams of Dr. King."

Stats prove that it doesn't. . . .

It’s becoming one of the more amusing rituals of American political life: a naïve white liberal Notices (or even implies) the Hatefact that crime is disproportionately black and is instantly lynched by his/ her own kind. Last year, it was Philadelphia Magazine’s Robert Huber,whose Being White in Philly cover story actually caused the black mayor of the city, Michael Nutter, to write to the Philadelphia Human Rights Commission demanding action be taken. This year, it’s Tracey Halvorsen, a white Baltimore woman who just published an article [Baltimore City, You're Breaking My Heart| This is why people leave, Medium.com, February 7, 2014] in which she went to the very edge of the racial abyss in describing why the 63.5 percent black city is dying—only to turn tail under pressure.

Halvorsen appears to be the epitome of Stuff White People Likeliberals. Her Twitter profile reads: President & Chief Visionary Officer at Fastspot. Artist, animal lover, writer, joker, traveler. Life's short, have fun. Perhaps to establish her PC credentials, she made it clear that she’s a lesbian.

Maybe Halvorsen’s passionate philippic was provoked by the murder earlier in the week of 51-year-old Kimberley Leto, a white female bartender. Leto was murdered in her home by two black males, aged 16 and 14—the 14-year-old, only an eight grader, asked the judge to be allowed out on bail to visit his daughter. Halvorsen’s piece didn’t even mention race, but it’s 100 percent about the problems the black community causes in Baltimore, exacerbated by complete black control of City Hall:

Life takes you places, you follow a course that isn't completely of your own making. One day you wake up, and it’s really all up to you. So where do you want to live? I happen to live in a city. Baltimore, to be specific.

And I'm growing to absolutely hate it here.

I’m tired of hearing about 12 year old girls being held up at gun-point while they walk to school.

     Notice that Halvorsen, while running through a laundry list of the violent problems of Baltimore, a city that sounds something like Mad Max's Bartertown on a bad day in between Thunderdome competitions, she assures us at least three times how much she loves 'diversity.' More proof that many of my fellow European Americans will be praising diversity down to their last murdered breath.

WARNER ROBINS -- Two teens have been arrested in connection with an attack in front of Warner Robins High School while school was out due to snow.

Shymalik Raekwon Mitchell, 17, of Warner Robins, was arrested Wednesday and charged with aggravated assault, according to a news release from the Warner Robins Police Department.

Terrell Antonio Boyd, 17, also of Warner Robins, was charged with battery. Additional arrests may be pending as the investigation continues, the release said.

According to police, a group of about 30 people were having a snowball fight at the high school Jan. 29. Members of the group allegedly were jumping on vehicles in the parking lot, and when one of the vehicle’s owners asked them to stop, they allegedly attacked that person and three others who came to his aid.

A photo of the fight circulated widely on social media. One of the victims said a person associated with the alleged assailants took the photo, and it was originally posted making light of the attack. It rapidly circulated on the Internet, and investigators used the picture to identify the suspects. . . .

The victim, a 27-year-old man from Byron, asked not to be identified because he and the other three victims have children in the school system and fear reprisal. . . .

Just inland from the Hawaiin Island 
of Kaua‘i’s famed Na Pali coast, Jim Hobbs flies a Hughes 500 helicopter high over sharply serrated ridges that are draped with a million shades of green. To the north, the breakers of the blue Pacific sparkle. 

“I knew it was gonna be a good day when I walked out the door this morning,” Hobbs says from the pilot’s seat, his voice crackling through the helicopter’s intercom system. 

Every bit of good weather here is welcome. Home to some of the most rugged terrain on the planet, Kaua‘i is also one of the rainiest spots on Earth, and flying in the island’s canyons is extremely challenging. In the helicopter’s backseat, Stephen Ambagis monitors a pair of cameras as they create a finely detailed map of the ground below, while Hobbs flies the helicopter 1,000 feet over the landscape—the exact altitude necessary for the cameras to work correctly.

When Wainiha Valley suddenly opens below, the diminutive helicopter shudders mightily as Hobbs drops elevation to keep the required 1,000 feet above the ground. “I’m going down as fast as I can,” he says, but even the nimble Hughes 500 can’t keep up with the precipitous topography. 

Kaua‘i is rugged and beautiful, but it is also threatened by a host of invasive plants and animals. One of those invaders is the Australian tree fern, a fast-reproducing ornamental that was brought to Kaua‘i almost half a century ago to prettify resorts on the island’s North Shore. It rapidly grows frond to frond and crowds out native plants. . . .

Rome (AFP) - Italy's navy said Thursday it had rescued more than 1,100 immigrants on eight dinghies in 24 hours and warned that calmer seas could see the numbers rise further.

"Eight boats carrying a total of 1,123 people were assisted on Wednesday off the coast of Lampedusa island. They all appear to be from sub-Saharan Africa," captain Marco Maccaroni told AFP. . . .

"Unfortunately, we estimate around 3,000 people are currently trying to make it across in boats every month," said Maccaroni, adding that in the three months the operation has been up and running, 9,300 people have been rescued.

"With the arrival of the spring and better weather conditions, it's likely the number will increase," he said. . . .
