Hillary Clinton Loses Ground With White Women [& Blacks] — WSJ/NBC Poll

Many Democrats have long hoped that Hillary Clinton might expand Barack Obama‘s electoral coalition by drawing in more white women voters.
A new Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll suggests she may have a tough time pulling it off. Mrs. Clinton is losing ground with white women and many other important slices of the electorate, the poll shows, amid a spate of reports about her email practices, speaking fees and foreign donations to the Clinton Foundation.
In June, 44% of white women had a favorable view of Mrs. Clinton, compared to 43% who didn’t. In July, those numbers moved in the wrong direction for Mrs. Clinton: Only 34% of white women saw her in a positive light, compared to 53% who had a negative impression of her, the poll found.
Mr. Obama fared poorly with white women voters in the 2012 election, losing them to Republican challenger Mitt Romney by 14 points. ...

 Geneva (AFP) - More than 2,000 people have died trying to cross the Mediterranean to Europe this year, data showed Tuesday, bearing testimony to migrants' increasingly desperate attempts to reach the continent.
"Unfortunately, we have now reached a milestone whereby over 2,000 migrants and refugees have died as of this past weekend," International Organization for Migration spokesman Itayi Virri told reporters in Geneva.
The organisation said around 188,000 people had been rescued so far this year trying to cross the Mediterranean, and warned the 200,000-mark could be crossed by the end of the week.
IOM said the latest toll confirms "this route as the deadliest for migrants in search of a better life," and warned the situation was worsening. ...

Washington (AFP) - As nine candidates take their place Thursday alongside Donald Trump for the first Republican presidential debate, one question looms: how does one deal with a rival whose bombast is part of his DNA?
The real-estate tycoon turned White House contender is also the nation's most prolific political insult generator, imposing a sense of must-see-TV on the opening duel of the 2016 cycle.
He blasted fellow Republican White House hopeful Jeb Bush as "weak," Senator Lindsey Graham as an "idiot," and Texas ex-governor Rick Perry as a buffoon who now wears glasses "so people will think he's smart."
And that was just in one campaign speech.
Despite or perhaps because of his outrageous promises and harsh invective since launching his campaign in June, the brash billionaire has snatched a wide lead in the polls.
Trump has trumped many who have spent years meticulously preparing for this moment -- writing memoirs or policy books, espousing causes, losing weight, polishing their image -- and all who courted wealthy donors.
Should they now hit back at Trump, raising a stink to get noticed but at the risk of legitimizing a man the Republican National Committee has begged to tone it down? ...

Scenes of asylum seekers camped near the French port of Calais trying to enter the UK have ignited a conversation across the English Channel about how welcoming a country Britain is – and should be – for migrants. 

Thousands of desperate migrants, many refugees from the conflict in Syria as well as sub-Saharan Africa, have gathered in makeshift camps, attempting to board trucks and trains in the hope of forging a better life. On the other side of the Channel, miles-long traffic jams and extended delays on the Channel Tunnel train have revealed a clogged system struggling to cope with newfound pressure.

MANCHESTER, N.H. (Reuters) - There was no Donald Trump but his top issue, illegal immigration, was a dominant theme on Monday for 14 Republican presidential candidates who tested their messages at a New Hampshire forum to start a pivotal week on the campaign trail.
Facing their first face-to-face debate on Thursday in Cleveland, the candidates got in some warm-up action at the Voters First Forum. The event lacked the punch of an actual debate but allowed participants to talk up their policy beliefs in answer to questions from a moderator.
Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina got in what was arguably the zinger of the night when he declared himself uniquely qualified to take on Democrat Hillary Clinton in a general election matchup in November 2016. Clinton is currently the front runner among Democrats seeking the presidential nomination.
"I am fluent in Clinton-speak," Graham said, proceeding to bring up the Monica Lewinsky scandal that jeopardized Bill Clinton's presidency in 1996 and Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server while conducting official business as secretary of state.
"When Bill says he didn't have sex with that woman, he did," Graham said. "When (Hillary Clinton) tells us: 'Trust me, you have all the emails you need,' we haven't even scratched the surface....I understand this crowd," he said.
Trump, who leads polls of Republican voters in the 2016 race for a presidential nominee, declined to appear at the event out of pique [Notice the spin? Why not simply 'in reaction to'?] over an editorial written about him by the New Hampshire Union Leader newspaper, one of the sponsors of the event. ...

Rasmussen Report: How Big a Third-Party Threat Is Trump? - "Even 19% of Democrats describe themselves as likely Trump voters"

If “The Donald” loses the Republican presidential nomination and runs as a third-party candidate, he definitely could put a crimp in GOP hopes to reclaim the White House.
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 29% of Likely U.S. Voters say they are at least somewhat likely to vote for Trump if he is not chosen as the GOP nominee and runs as a third party candidate. But that includes only 14% who say they are Very Likely to vote for him. Sixty-eight percent (68%) say they are unlikely to vote for the billionaire developer if he runs as a third-party presidential candidate, with 51% who say it’s Not At All Likely.

Worrisome for Republicans, however, is the finding that over a third (36%) of Likely GOP Voters say they are likely to vote for Trump if he’s a third-party candidate, with 18% who are Very Likely to do so. One-in-three (33%) voters who are not affiliated with either major party also are likely Trump voters, including 16% who say they are Very Likely to vote for him if he runs third-party.
Even 19% of Democrats describe themselves as likely Trump voters, although that includes just nine percent (9%) who say they are Very Likely to vote that way. ...

 Report Cites ‘Latinization of U.S.,’ Warns of ‘Backlash’ Against Whites
A study of the growing Hispanic immigrant population declares that the country is on the verge of the “Latinization of the United States,” a “browning of America” that by 2050 will be 29 percent Latino–and politically influential.
Published in the authoritative journal “Ethnicities,” the immigration analysis by two California experts noted that while big states such as California and Florida are home to most Hispanics, there has been a recent growth surge exceeding 300 percent of mostly Mexicans to Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina, North Carolina and Arkansas.
The analysis is focused on how to economically handle the surge so that Latinos do not get left behind–or out of the middle class. The numbers and characterization of the new immigrants spells out the influence of the Hispanics.

“In fact, the current struggle that persists in Arizona may well be a bellwether for the potential backlash that is bound to ensue in others parts of the nation, as the White Anglo-Saxon Protestant population no longer enjoys the political security associated with their past majority status,” said the authors. ...

      Don't know if they had a hand in this, but it is always amusing that the Tribe, and their many financial beneficiaries, chronically tend to think of all Whites, even if you are an Italian or Spanish Catholic, as the hated WASP.
