Over 30,000 unaccompanied minors that have illegally crossed the U.S. border have been transported to sponsor families across the United States, including some in Alaska and Hawaii.

The Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Children and Families reports most of the children have been placed with families in Texas, with 4,280 of the total 30,340 being transported to the lone star state.

Other top states with high numbers of sponsor families housing the children include California, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, and Virginia.

Records show that the government has used federal tax dollars to transport five minors to Alaska, and eight to Hawaii.

The department states that when immigration authorities apprehend an unaccompanied minor, the child is transferred to the care and custody of the Office of Refugee Resettlement. Children are cared for in shelters around the country until they are released to a sponsor ...
