Pebble Mine: Devil in the details--and non-details

Pebble Mine is the common name of a mineral exploration project investigating a very large porphyry coppergold, and molybdenum mineral deposit in the Bristol Bay region of Southwest Alaska, near Lake Iliamna and Lake Clark. The proposal to mine the ore deposit, using large-scale operations and infrastructure, is controversial. Proponents argue that the mine will create jobs, provide tax revenue to the state of Alaska, and reduce American dependence on foreign sources of raw materials. Opponents argue that the mine would adversely affect the entire Bristol Bay watershed; and that the possible consequences to fish populations, when mining effluents escape planned containments, are simply too great to risk. Much of this debate concerns the tentative plan to impound large amounts of water, waste rock, and mine tailings behind several earthen dams at the mine site. ... --wiki

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pebble_Mine

The Pebble deposit is a massive storehouse of gold, copper and molybdemum, located in the headwaters of the Kvichak and Nushagak Rivers, two of the eight major rivers that feed Bristol Bay. If built, Pebble would be one of the largest mines in the world. Because of its size, geochemistry and location, Pebble runs a high risk of polluting Bristol Bay, one of the world’s few and most productive wild salmon
Pebble would be up to 3 times bigger than Bingham Canyon mine in Utah which has polluted 70 square miles of ground water near Salt Lake City.

strongholds that supports a $500 million commercial and sport fishery. For this reason, Trout Unlimited is working with a diverse group of fishermen, guides, lodge owners, Alaska Natives, scientists, chef, restaurant owners, seafood lovers and many others to try to stop the Pebble development and to protect Bristol Bay.
The proposed mine developers, the Pebble Limited Partnership (PLP) are a consortium of the world’s second largest multinational mining corporation, London-based Anglo American, along with Northern Dynasty, a junior mining company headquartered in Canada. Anglo American’senvironmental track record does not bode well for Bristol Bay and Northern Dynasty has little experience safeguarding the environment having never developed a mine to date. Although PLP has not released its final mine plans, preliminary designs indicate that the Pebble Mine complex would span 20 square miles of state land in the Bristol Bay watershed. Located in a seismically active region, Pebble would require the world’s largest earthen dam to be built, some 700 feet high and several miles in length. Independent scientists have questioned whether the dam could withstand the force of a massive earthquake, such as the 9.2 quake that devastated Anchorage in 1964.
The dam and 10-square-mile-wide containment pond are intended to hold between 2.5 billion and 10 billion tons of mine waste that Pebble would produce over its lifetime - nearly enough to bury the city fo Seattle, WA. Because the sulfide, or acid-generating, nature of the Pebble ore body, the waste wouldNo Pebble Mine require environmental treatment in perpetuity. Any release of mine waste into the surface or groundwater has the potential to harm Bristol Bay’s salmon runs. ...

Key Considerations for a Large-Scale Mine Proposal

Wild Salmon Center and Trout Unlimited have produced a report examining the proposed Pebble Mine and its potential impacts on the wild salmon fishery of Bristol Bay, Alaska. This report describes significant ecological, economic, and cultural concerns raised by proposed development of the Pebble copper, gold, and molybdenum deposit in the headwaters of the Bristol Bay basin, which is home to North America's most abundant wild salmon fishery and the world's largest wild sockeye salmon run. ...

The U.S. Navy’s commitment to environmental stewardship and conservation of our nation's natural heritage has helped improve the status of two rare plant species in southern California—Acmispon dendroideus var. traskiae (San Clemente Island lotus) andCastilleja grisea (San Clemente Island paintbrush). Both species were among the very first plants to gain Endangered Species Act (ESA) protection 35 years ago. The two perennials, which are unique to San Clemente Island located 75 miles (120 kilometers) west of San Diego, were listed as endangered in 1977 after their habitat was severely degraded from decades of overgrazing by goats and other nonnative herbivores. ...

Different: DC Gang of 8/Dalton Gang of 8? Location

The Gang of 8 Proposal is Akin to Amnesty

Tom Tancredo

Tom Tancredo, Townhall, 1/29/2013

To hear the accounts about tough bipartisan negotiations from the Senate’s “Gang of 8” on immigration, one would think that Hatfields had just made peace with the McCoys. The truth is that all the Republicans on this gang have long been supporters of amnesty. The border enforcement group Numbers USA gives Jeff Flake, Lindsay Graham, and John McCain F grades for their support of amnesty. Rubio has not had a chance to vote for an amnesty yet, but he has been vocally supporting the policy for the last year. Similarly, the four Democratic Senators who sponsored the bill, Richard Durbin, Michael Bennet, Chuck Schumer, and Bob Menendez all have F-.
This tells you a lot of what the American people should expect when they hear about “bipartisanship”: nothing more than a compromise between F- Democrats and F Republicans. And sure enough, what they offered represents the worst from both parties. The comprehensive immigration reform they offer reflects the tired scheme of amnesty and massive increases to legal immigration in exchange for vague promises of enforcement. America was promised enforcement in exchange for amnesty in 1986. The enforcement never came, and 20 years and 12 million illegal aliens later, the same compromise was offered. The American people were not fooled in 2006 and 2007 and they rejected amnesty, despite the support of the Republican and Democratic establishment.
The Gang of 8 proposal will give amnesty to virtually every single illegal immigrant living here. ...
You have to wonder how the 'conservative' voters of Arizona are feeling right about now, the ones who changed their minds about candidate McCain when he managed to turn his polling numbers around by repeatedly shouting "Build the danged fence!" This from a war hero. How better to illustrate the end-stage of White Man's Disease.

Ferris' Bluff by Fred Limberg: Racial PC on Stilts

Product Details

Definitely a book pushing the agenda of the ruling Tolerance Police, a work that becomes more ham-handed and unintentionally comical as it progresses. For example, I’m not a Southerner, but is the South today really a place where humble proud saintly, but spunky, blacks need to avoid being seen on Main Street, hiding themselves away amongst leafy country hillsides in 'Jook' joints, where they may dare to play their non-country music and dance, laugh and sing to their hearts content away from the racist redneck crackers?

Or does the South, like every other region of the country, have residential housing patterns, sometimes extending to other places, like bars and eateries, that are almost identically self-segregated, whether people are Republican, Democrat, conservative, liberal or independent? Just like all other races in all other nations around the world.

The icing on the cake was the “Yankee Jewish lawyer” and his wife, who looked like “Prince Rainier and Grace Kelley,” about which the hero protagonist was greatly surprised and delighted. What, the author doesn't think most Yankee Jewish lawyers look like Prince Rainier?

Outstanding Tehachapi Tollhouse & Tejon Ranchers

The Missing Link
Jane Braxton Little, Nature Conservancy Magazine

California Corridor 960x500

An hour's drive north of Los Angeles, just east of the vast agricultural fields and sprawling subdivisions of the Central Valley, lies a still-wild sliver of old California. On the edge of one of the nation’s most populous places, the slopes of the Tehachapi Mountains descend in a cascade of grass-covered flanks from almost 8,000 feet.

Rugged and remote, this geological jumble of a mountain range forms a slender neck that links the public lands surrounding Los Angeles with the national forests of the Sierra Nevada to the north, and it joins the remaining grasslands of California’s Central Valley with the Mojave Desert to the southeast. For millennia it has nurtured the seasonal migrations and territorial shifts of wildlife moving up and down canyons in one of the most vital corridors in North America.

Most of the Tehachapi (pronounced tuh-hatch-a-pea) range is owned by ranchers whose families have worked the land for generations, their cattle sharing watering holes with mule deer and bobcats. But with urban sprawl pressing from the south and west and wind power development from the east, wildlife and ranchers alike face an uncertain future.

Over the past four years, a consortium of landowners and conservation groups has worked to protect a vital 50-mile wildlife corridor through the range. And last year, when The Nature Conservancy purchased the 15,000-acre Tollhouse Ranch, the deal secured the final link in a 270,000-acre ecological corridor that joins vast ecosystems to the east, west, north and south.

“This is a linkage of continental significance,” says E.J. Remson, the Conservancy’s project director in Southern California, who struck the Tollhouse Ranch deal.

The scale of this protected corridor would be noteworthy anywhere in the world, says Tom Maloney, executive director of the Tejon Ranch Conservancy, one of the major partners working to protect the range. “But to accomplish this in Southern California is staggering—audacious!” ...

Turning Texas Blue--and as soon as possible!

Democrats launch plan to turn Texas blue

President Barack Obama arrives to deliver remarks at the University of Texas in Austin, Texas in 2010. | Reuters

National Democrats are taking steps to create a large-scale independent group aimed at turning traditionally conservative Texas into a prime electoral battleground, crafting a new initiative to identify and mobilize progressive voters in the rapidly-changing state, strategists familiar with the plans told POLITICO.
The organization, dubbed “Battleground Texas,” plans to engage the state’s rapidly growing Latino population, as well as African-American voters and other Democratic-leaning constituencies that have been underrepresented at the ballot box in recent cycles. Two sources said the contemplated budget would run into the tens of millions of dollars over several years - a project Democrats hope has enough heft to help turn what has long been an electoral pipe dream into reality. ...
“We have been waiting in Texas for a very long time for the Latino vote to come into its own and turn the tide. But many of us have decided that we can’t wait for that. We have to do the old-fashioned work of going out and talking to Texans,” said Parker, who didn't rule out a statewide campaign “when I am done [being] mayor.” ...

Well, I suppose this does show at least some initiative. They are not just sitting around waiting for the inexorable massive in-migration, plus offspring, demographic tide to wash away we hapless goody-two-shoes whites and our Western civilization, but will be happily hurrying along the process of our welcome demise as much as humanely possible. So try to be patient--because they are redoubling their efforts!

Byron York: Is Republican reform real, or just talk?

January 25, 2013

Byron York, Political Correspondent, Washington Examiner

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- "If we're being honest about it, we have not really won a decisive presidential election since 1988," RNC chairman Reince Priebus told reporters a few minutes after winning -- uncontested -- a second term at the party's winter meeting here in Charlotte. ...

http://washingtonexaminer.com/byron-york-is-republican-reform-real-or-just-talk/article/2519769#.UQUzMb99IQE

There is every reason to believe that the GOP will continue its message of 'Me too (with reservations)!' toward Democratic Racial Marxism. The Republicans who most often referred to the GOP as the "Stupid Party" were the paleoconservatives.  If they had been heeded on such issues as open borders and amnesties, rather than being purged, election demographics would be different today and the GOP would not be getting permanently phased out.

An outstanding candidate, coupled with some disastrous Democratic administration or candidate likely will allow the GOP to win the presidency a few more times before the election system is completely overrun by the Third World and, in reaction, there emerges an explicitly European American anti-genocide party. By then the the low-level Ra-Ra! cafeteria food fight over the White House will no longer remain the main event.

- - -
W. Examiner response post:

"As to the genocide of European-Americans, I believe splitting the country will be our last best hope."

Good point. Agreed. Utopian multiculturalism has never worked for long in all of human history. The "splitting" is coming. Latinos will want a nice big chunk of the Southwest, Muslims will probably slice off part of Michigan and so on.

Of course there have been white coalescing efforts in the Northeast and Northwest, ironically in otherwise 'blue' states, but residential housing patterns all across the nation will increasingly drive whites together to form various white (neat clean green quiet low-crime neighborhoods, the way we like them) regions of larger sizes, even as our overall numbers continue to decline for awhile, and especially decline in comparison to the historically higher--less genetically prone to high-investment parenting--nonwhite birthrates.

Except for a separate white township being temporarily tolerated, such coalescing efforts are not working out too well in South Africa, where whites are still being erased through hostile confiscatory dispossessing government actions, primarily taxes and the affirmative-action denial and loss of jobs, and by the government looking the other way as 'random' violent crime against whites does the dirty work.

The more prosperous whites in South Africa have high-walled homes with lots of armed security, but each family only has to slip up once and allow for one home-invasion breach and they are dead meat, after torture, rape. hacking, white body parts being highly prized for their powerful magical properties, topped off with excretory deposits around the house to mark conquered territory. Just another happy vibrant rainbow nation, end-stage.

Jindal: Racial Identity Pathetic [if you're white]

Governor Bobby Jindal: GOP needs to 'stop being the stupid party'

By Justin Sink 01/25/13

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal warned fellow Republicans they "must stop being the stupid party" during a fiery and sharp critique Thursday night at the Republican National Committee's Winter Meeting.

As Republicans gather in Charlotte, N.C., on Friday, many have focused on how best to reboot the party in the face of a 2012 election cycle that saw Democrats retain the White House and gain seats in both chambers of Congress.

For Jindal, a popular rising star in the party who is thought to be an early contender for the 2016 presidential nomination, that recalibration involves Republicans learning to "stop insulting the intelligence of voters.”

In the address, Jindal outlined at least seven steps that he believes Republicans need to take in order to remain competitive. In a scathing takedown, he accuses the party of "looking backwards" and having an obsession with "identity politics."

"We must reject the notion that demography is destiny, the pathetic and simplistic notion that skin pigmentation dictates voter behavior," Jindal said. ...

http://thehill.com/video/in-the-news/279243-jindal-republicans-must-stop-being-the-stupid-party#ixzz2J9JxfQc9

Funny, isn't it, how this idea of 'identity politics' is only an "obsession" (held by the GOP??), only a "pathetic and simplistic notion" if you are white. If you are, say, an Indian in India, a Mexican in Mexico, a Muslim in the Middle East, an African in any African nation it is just common sense and you and your government would not for one moment entertain being overwhelmed and demographically erased by other races.

One of the positive things, however, about Cultural Marxism having metastasized to this late stage is that our enemies are brazenly coming out into the open and thrusting their grinning faces into the spotlight. Of course our deadliest opponents are those among our own people who allowed all of this to come crashing down upon our heads, and especially upon the heads of our grandkids' grandkids.

What Is Mountaintop Removal Mining? How Bizarre?

Mountaintop removal coal mining, often described as "strip mining on steroids," is an extremely destructive form of mining that is devastating Appalachia. In the past few decades, over 2,000 miles of streams and headwaters that provide drinking water for millions of Americans have been permanently buried and destroyed. An area the size of Delaware has been flattened. Local coal field communities routinely face devastating floods and adverse health effects. Natural habitats in some our country's oldest forests are laid to waste. Earthjustice has been in the courts and in Congress on behalf of other local and national environmental and community groups to stop this destructive practice and protect Appalachia for future generations.
How It's Done
Coal companies first raze an entire mountainside, ripping trees from the ground and clearing brush with huge tractors. This debris is then set ablaze as deep holes are dug for explosives. An explosive is poured into these holes and mountaintops are literally blown apart. Huge machines called draglines—some the size of an entire city block, able to scoop up to 100 tons in a single load—push rock and dirt into nearby streams and valleys, forever burying waterways. Coal companies use explosives to blast as much as 800 to 1,000 feet off the tops of mountains in order to reach thin coal seams buried deep below. ...

If it weren't so destructive, mountaintop removal mining would almost be comical, because of its bizarre time-warp aspect. It is almost as if we had found out that there is still one lone train chugging along, crisscrossing the Midwest, carrying rough and ready Old Western-type hunters, wearing coonskin caps, swigging corn liquor out of jugs, chewing plugs of tobacco, shouting, spitting and guffawing, as they point their rifles out the train windows and shoot down the last of the bison
Not that back in those days they had the equipment and techniques of today's mountaintop removal, but it is as if all of the intervening decades of learning about ecology and our inter-connectedness with nature, tying into health, safety and our general quality of life, and especially to that of our grandkids, has gone unlearned. True, people should have had more common sense in the Old West, but it is easy to judge others by our modern standards, and ecology as a science began only at about the beginning of the 20th century.
Of course the mountaintop removal controversy is far from being just a matter of environmentalists versus an extractive industry, since even retired coal miners living below these excavations find their communities hurt by the damage to things like drinking water, fishing and tourism.
In the past there have been open-pit mining and all sorts of other ways to gut and denude the landscape, particularly high-pressure hydrological mining in the West, so things like this are not entirely unheard of. And not to forget that miners themselves--having a granddad who worked in a copper mine--are pretty much unsung heroes for the brutal risks they take to supply us with convenient energy.

But, again, the bizarreness persists. If this guillotining and smothering of Mother Nature weren't actually occurring and you were to write all this up in the form of fiction, many people would roll their eyes and say, "Sure, slicing off entire mountaintops and bulldozing the debris down into streams and valleys where people fish, hike and drink the water--as if that would actually be legal!"

And all this still takes place under a national administration that is often accused of environmental extremism. Well, one thing in their favor is that this war against on our mountaintops and the surrounding communities and the hapless plants and critters is entirely consistent with the untold damage to the environment and the quality of life that will be done to future generations by the administration's belief in forever redoubling U.S. population numbers through massive legal and illegal in-migration, including offspring.

As we all know, the Obama administration even goes after state governors who try to help enforce federal border laws that the feds mostly smirk at, before they chortle up their sleeves. How environmentally (and security) sick is that? And how huge a betrayal? It is almost as if America were a lush blue-green majestic snow-capped mountain that is in the process of being merrily sliced off by the very elites we elected and entrusted to protect her.

Sheila Jackson Lee Meanest Member of Congress?

Who are the best and worst bosses on Capitol Hill?

Congressional staffer turnover rates help tell the story

The Washington Times
Tuesday, January 22, 2013

Hiding knives from a member of Congress for fear of your own life. Having cellphones thrown at you. Being cursed at in front of your parents. Being told, “I’m a queen, and I demand to be treated like one.”

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, Texas Democrat, has a reputation as one of the toughest taskmasters in Congress to have as a boss, and the numbers appear to justify it.

The Washington Times analyzed a decade of congressional pay records to find the offices with the highest turnover rates and found 27 members who — over a period of four or more years — lost an annual average of at least one-third of their staff who sought calmer pastures or were fired.

Each year, an average of half of Mrs. Jackson Lee’s staff quits, and one year, all but six of 23 staffers left.

Mona Floyd, who served as the congresswoman’s legislative director, has monocular vision and has a lawsuit pending against Mrs. Jackson Lee, who was voted the “meanest member” of the House in a bipartisan survey of Hill staffers by Washingtonian magazine last year. Ms. Floyd said she was told by the representative, “I don’t care anything about your disability.” ...

Altamaha Carter Eco Split-Personality Disorder

The Way to Think About Rivers

Carter-Altamaha-700x450

By Jimmy Carter, Nature Conservancy Magazine

For a birder, adding a new species to your life list is a thrill. My wife, Rosalynn, and I have been avid birders for many years, and although the Altamaha River means many things to many people, I’ll always remember it as the place where I added the lesser yellowlegs to my list.

Thousands of migratory birds like the lesser yellowlegs rely on the Altamaha River for shelter and sustenance. Formed at the confluence of the Ocmulgee and Oconee rivers, the Altamaha runs free through sparsely populated southeast Georgia for 137 miles, earning it the distinction of being one of the largest undammed river systems on the East Coast. The river quietly winds through deep forests and swamps and nourishes vast salt marshes as it mixes with the Atlantic Ocean, feeding the Georgia coast where some areas remain near-pristine. ...

http://magazine.nature.org/features/the-way-to-think-about-rivers.xml

Sadly, President Jimmy Carter is the ultimate type-A museum exhibit of Liberal Eco Multiple-Personality Disorder, whereby someone, on the one hand, fashionably, and commendably, does everything possible to protect natural wildlife areas, while, on the other, fashionably does everything they can to initiate, carry out, approve, sanction, support, shy away from (the issue) or ignore pro massive in-migration policies that will continually redouble America’s overpopulation numbers, which will eventually turn those same protected natural areas into ever more balkanized degraded corrupted third-world teeming shantytown anthills. But why sugarcoat it?

Seriously, this environmental dual-personality syndrome seems to have all the earmarks of people--Al Gore, anyone?--who are determined to always appear piously fashionably enlightened in regards to every issue on the map, even if their left hand keeps brutally smacking down the good that they have accomplished with their right--and then some.

Finally, right now ruling elites, including the mainstream media, in all Western nations are in the process of demographically erasing Westerners. It shows how deep is our people's denial that we think that all of these carefully crafted agreements, devised by The Nature Conservancy and others, to save the environment will survive the insatiable human demands for natural resources as populations continue to redouble, at the same time that there will no longer be any more of we goody-two-shoes Westerners running around trying to move heaven and earth to save the California Condor and the Oahu Tree Snail.

The natural environment is blessed, but then finally cruelly cursed to have friends like these.

... Bill Head's face was a furious red. His right food moved a little backward and his right fist jumped from its idle position, without warning of any kind, and smashed Surratt on the chin. Surratt fell backward against the cell wall; he dropped to his knees. His head sagged down and he supported himself with stiff arms a moment, his shoulders swaying.

"Do that again," growled Bolderback,"and I'll bend a gun over your skull, Bill."

George Bernay's voice came into the cell, strained and passionate, "Head, I'd like to kill you for that!" Hughie Grant, beside Bernay, abruptly cocked his eyes on Bernay. "Easy George. You ain't among friends."

Robert Kaplan Jared Diamond Geogrhaphic Propaganda

BOOK REVIEW: ‘The Revenge of Geography’

Peter Hannaford , The Washington Times, January 18, 2013

THE REVENGE OF GEOGRAPHY: WHAT THE MAP TELLS US ABOUT COMING CONFLICTS AND THE BATTLE AGAINST FATE
By Robert D. Kaplan
Random House, $26, 403 pages

Robert Kaplan, a seasoned foreign correspondent, scholar and author, sets out to demonstrate that geography did and does play a major role in the behavior of nations. In much earlier times, for example, natural barriers such as mountains and rivers provided defense. Nowadays, geography that enhances a country’s economic importance can determine its geopolitical importance. ...

Ggas human soc.jpg

That geography is so crucial in national formation and success is an important insight, making me even more eager to read Robert Kaplan's next rumored book: "Orbiting the Sun: Impacts Our Yearly Calender!"

Seriously, we are periodically bombarded by these unintentionally comical books, like Jared Diamond's Guns, Germs and Steel, that argue that geography is responsible for this, that, and the other thing, and why you named your dog Henderson--but it could not possibly have had any significant impact upon human genetics! (So get that idea out of your head, you silly!)

For example, let's say, oh, I don't know, casting about, white people are simply the beneficiaries of dumb luck, since they happened to have grown up in such a posh lush lucky geographic neighborhood--but these all-powerful all-shaping geographic forces, including climate, obviously did not shape their genetic makeup, influencing such things as IQ or dynamism. (So this is the last time I'm warning you, buster--forget that whole nutty notion!)

All this is an example of lying through half-truths, academic-journalistic subdivision, that keeps anti-Western ruling elites firmly sitting fat and happy upon and around their golden thrones.

HSUS Ranks CA on Top South Dakota Bites Lassie?

January 15, 2013

The HSUS Releases Annual Ranking of State Animal Protection Laws

California retains first place; South Dakota holds last
The Humane Society of the United States, the nation’s largest animal protection organization, has released its fourth annual “Humane State Ranking” report, a comprehensive analysis of animal protection laws in all 50 states and Washington, D.C. The HSUS graded states on the strength of a wide range of animal protection laws, including public policies dealing with animal cruelty and fighting, pets, wildlife, equines, animals in research, and farm animals.
California earned first place for the fourth year in a row, while South Dakota remained in last place. Ohio was the most improved state, leaping ahead in the ranks by passing laws regulating puppy mills and the private possession of dangerous wild animals. ...

Anti-White Diversity Virus Spreads to West Point

West Point center cites dangers of ‘far right’ in U.S.

Rowan ScarborougThe Washington Time, 1/17/2013

A West Point think tank has issued a paper warning America about “far right” groups such as the “anti-federalist” movement, which supports “civil activism, individual freedoms and self-government.”

The report issued this week by the Combating Terrorism Center at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y., is titled “Challengers from the Sidelines: Understanding America’s Violent Far-Right.”

The center — part of the institution where men and women are molded into Army officers — posted the report Tuesday. It lumps limited government activists with three movements it identifies as “a racist/white supremacy movement, an anti-federalist movement and a fundamentalist movement.”

The West Point center typically focuses reports on al Qaeda and other Islamic extremists attempting to gain power in Asia, the Middle East and Africa through violence.

But its latest study turns inward and paints a broad brush of people it considers “far right.” ...

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2013/jan/17/west-point-center-cites-dangers-far-right-us/#ixzz2IMuFU8JV

Even a Monty Python sketch could not have come up with something this good. These wild violent far-right groups believe in such things as 'individual freedoms'! And--brace yourself--'self-government.' Shocking!

All this reminds me of the Southern Poverty Law Center and their increasingly unhinged reports, passed on by the media as fact, about there being ever more countless lawless violent right-wing extremist groups all over the country! Which is also consistent with what comes out of Hollywood.

     Just one obvious flaw:

If they actually exist, by the definition of "violent," in a nation this huge, wouldn't there be a nightly body count of at least a dozen or so victims? If there were, God knows the news media would be eager enough to shout such news to the rafters. Yet, you get one sad case here and there, like the doddering old guy who shot and killed the black museum guard many months back--as the staggeringly disproportionate black-on-white violent crime rate is soft-peddled by the news media at every opportunity.

And who was responsible for this West Point report? Dr. Arie Pelinger. From Dr. Pelinger's West Point faculty bio page:

Arie Perliger is the Director of Terrorism Studies at the Combating Terrorism Center and Assistant Professor at the Department of Social Sciences, US Military Academy at West Point. After completing his PhD in Political Science at the University of Haifa Israel (2007), where he was also a fellow at the National Security Studies Center (NSSC), Dr. Perliger became affiliated with the Department of Political Science at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem as a Golda Meir Post-Doctoral Fellow (2007-2008). On August 2008 Dr. Perliger joined the Department of Political Science at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, where he was a Schusterman Visiting Assistant Professor until the summer of 2010.

I believe the best explanation for much of this can be found in Kevin MacDonald's The Culture of Critique.
