A Mesquite man has admitted to lying to the FBI about pledging his allegiance to the Islamic State terrorist group, federal authorities said.
Bilal Abood, 37, pleaded guilty Tuesday morning to one count of making a false statement to a federal agency.
Abood faces up to eight years in federal prison and a maximum fine of $250,000.
He has been in federal custody since his May arrest. A sentencing date has not been scheduled.
Abood pledged allegiance over social media to the leader of ISIS and forwarded propaganda from the terrorist network, prosecutors said. He also traveled to Syria, against the warning of the FBI, according to prosecutors. ...
