In 2014 the amount of residents with a foreign background in Sweden, which includes foreign-born and Swedish-born with two foreign-born parents, amounted to over 2 million people or 21.5% of the population. In 2015 this number had increased to 22.2%. This means that nearly one quarter of Sweden's population is currently of foreign background.
